Jay Z's New Album 4:44 Streamed 1.5 Billion times In One Week
Am I the only one who hasn't heard Jay Z's album yet? The album has gone platinum in less than a week. That means it sold 1 million albums in a week.
1 million albums sales equals 1.5 billion streams.
This is digital sales. Crazy! Of course, the Tidal deal with Sprint helped with digital downloads, but still that is alot of downloads. On top of that, there were no free giveaways . In order to hear the album, you have to be a member of Tidal. I haven't signed up for Tidal nor do I know how it works. A quick peek of the Tidal page says that you have to sign up for a monthly membership. Seems easy enough!
The stories generated about the album songs makes me want to check it out. That is probably why it sold so well. Everything has to have a story to sell in this day and age. It's not just about the talent anymore. Stories like Jay Z admits to cheating on Beyonce and apologizes, he talks about Kanye and a money dispute, OJ , Prince, etc. All these hot topics in one album. Yes, I have to hear this album.
