RE: althea - grateful dead song review / 5-16-80 (first solo)

the dead are definitely not for everyone. a bit of an acquired taste, and a lot of their best work can be found in live recordings rather than their studio albums. with that being said, the history of the band and how they really were at the forefront of pioneering live sound for music shows is extremely fascinating and is definitely worth looking into. lots of big names in music equipment/gear came out of the dead’s circle.

thanks for the comment on the guitar. it started life as a carvin dc400 with 2 humbuckers, but i had it routed out to accommodate the dimarzio pickups. in that video it is 3 super 2’s wired in series with coil taps on all of them, and an on board effects loop (another development by Jerry Garcia worth looking into. pretty cool stuff). it’s currently wired up with dual sounds in the bridge and middle position and a dimarzio sds-1 in the neck for a little more midrange sound. pickup selector is a 6 way switch to get the standard 5 way strat selections but also neck and bridge

Cool stuff. My guitars have pretty standard wiring that is complex enough for me :)
