I started a new job today as an audio engineer for a production company that mostly works downtown Detroit in all the plazas.
Today’s set was super simple in terms of sound, just a dj playing classic tracks, all I was doing was sitting on the soundboard waiting for things to clip and then adjust them when they did. It was really fun to just enjoy the dj set and try to add to it as much as is possible with an old, yet dependable mixer. At least there’s wasn’t any fuzzy pots as I added a little bit of juice using the EQs on the channels. :)
I feel like if you told 10 year old me that it would one day be my job to be a helping hand at concerts, i would have been more relieved throughout my life. The excitement that kind of atmosphere gave me as a kid was unbelievable, now to watch other little kids go out in front of the truss and dance to the music... I am just so proud that I got here I barely have words for it.
The rest of the summer will probably be harder. I will have more channels and inputs and challenges, I will have less time to adapt and have to think faster each day. I know that i will do well if I continue to be a part of spreading positivity in the atmosphere.
The DJ and her partner were both extremely hardworking musicians who made it themselves. Her partner was none other than Tino Gross, he shared with me his story about inspiring sun records to create the movie and album “good rockin’ tonight”. What he and I have in common is a deep passion for music, like a child loves its mother we love to be a part of the vibrations around us.
It was just so inspiring to put myself into a new situation and be rewarded every step of the way.
Best,
Joshua
