I tried hosting on YT tonight, in order to post to steemit, 2 old classic videos recorded from TV 20 years ago.
YT took 1 of them down for users in USA; I'd like to host it somewhere else. I only host it on YT because it's obvious.
I tried view.ly, but it only takes .mp4 files. I don't want to convert this file; it's been compressed a few times already...
It's an MOV file; most generic video sites should accept it.
Any idea where is the best place to host for international video these days, and link to a steemit post?
Youtube sucks when it comes to hosting. I thought you were using dailymotion. Had it not worked fine for you? It accepts all the video formats. I checked it few minutes ago . If not do tell me, I'll find any video site for you, if you want sir @surfyogi
Thanks for your help with this. I was using YT first, then I tried LBRY.
LBRY would accept the MOV file, but would not play it. That's a painful bug.
Dailymotion is pretty nice. I still had people tell me it won't let them in; I never surveyed countries. Eastern europe I think.
I just tried Bitchute today; it has hard to use UI, but I got it up and working.
I updated one of my posts to include the Bitchute url. I'd like to understand better which hosts work for what regions; I could include 2 links for any video I post, if I thought it would help.
None of these other sites seem to be integrated like YT, for using the video link as the thumbnail, etc.
I'm guessing that's a special integration package steemit is using for YT videos, maybe from YT.
Yeah, YT is linked with steemit interface. Apart from this, YT is world's second largest search engine after Google. Millions of people use it on daily basis. So, its normal for steemit to integrate Yt with their user interface. I jst checked Bitchute today, it was very hard to use as you said plus very confusing. I had to add some videos on my blog but they all were under YT copyrights issue, so I had to use daily motion for now. It works fine :) I'll continue to use it for now.
Vimeo links can be embedded in steemit posts like youtube, but if you don't care about embedding, or if vimeo takes the video down, you can also use bitchute which seems to be on the side of freedom of information.

It's in beta right now, not very stable, but if you just want to get it up there that's a good option.
Cool idea. I am a member; I have it installed. It's syncing; still trying to get used to the idea of using apps that need to sync; so they are on all the time.. I need a bigger computer.

Nah, don't get a better computer, like I said, I don't think it's very stable yet, it's doing the same thing for me as well, but I think we'll all definitely come to rely on it combined with Steemit to upload videos and so on without censorship.
Wow, so hard to use. But I figured it out; it accepted and uploaded my video file, then told me it can't play it.. has a few bugs. ;-(
Be sure to report them so they get onto fixing it, it is beta after all so I don't hold it too much against them, it's just something to consider for the future.
That is one of the most annoying things with youtube as they can flag and block videos to certain countries.
If you want only people from steem to watch it I guess you can use somewhere like Dailymotion which doesn't have too strict guidelines nor does it moderate their videos much

I spend the same to me YT I delete them by copyright. It would be nice to be able to upload them directly from the PC., I really keep looking like doing it, if you find out how it warns you, greetings friend from Argentina !!!!
