Music - New Zealand's famous contributions

in #musiclast year (edited)

On a lazy Sunday afternoon I was listening to some of my playlists when I came across Lola's Theme by Shapeshifters which set me to thinking about Kiwilands contribution to one of my great passions..... music.

Undoubtedly Hayley Westenra is the best known Kiwi export despite being in the less followed Classic genre. She has performed for Queen Elizabeth on multiple occasions, as well as the Prince's William and Harry. She sang the New Zealand National Anthem at the Rugby World Cup Final (which NZ won). I shall feature a track of hers later; for now I thought I would start with a rather refreshing new artist who recently released her debut single....

Going simply by the name ABBY .... not to be confused with the now geriatric ABBA... a young lady with a surprisingly mature voice which she uses to great effect in this debut work. Definitely not my genre, I am a rocker after all ... but she certainly struck a chord. Give it a listen and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Abby - Low

back to said Haley Westenra and then I off to find some Dave Dobbyn's ... I need my rock fix and if memory serves he is the right man for it...

Hayley Westenra - Ave Maria

Well, when you age your memory certainly plays tricks on you .... maybe at the tender age I was in the mid-1980's I thought this was rock {shakes head in dismay} ....

*Dave Dobbyn - Magic (What She Do)

All in all I must admit I am underwhelmed by the NZ Rock bands .... so I am going to pander to my own predilection for music and close off with an absolutely unrelated to NZ music contribution track but one which is absolutely related to rock music.... rock but gentle with lazy Sunday in mind....enjoy!!

Cream - White Room

The mind boggles when acknowledging this track is over half a century old...

Thanks for stopping by, thanks for the support and remember stay safe and most of all stay free !!

LOL, The Datsuns... classy name. Better rock than I came across ....

And now for NZ's all time best band - these guys were amazing live!

Pleasant.... sort of music I play for my grandmother (if I ever had one) ...and as for amazing live.... will have to take your word for it... this vid gives nothing away {shrug}

ABBA ... oops ... ABBY ... interesting you included this. not sure, didn't really strike a cord with me. Am not running away when listening to the song, but I didn't see myself opening my Spotify to bookmark ABBY for a more in-depth review of her repertoire.

Dave Dobbyn and Rock: LOL ... Not a specialist at all classifying music, but this one sounds more like general pop or something. A typical sound of the 80s I suppose. Perhaps a bit more '80s disco' instead of 'rock'?

Ahhhh ... finally you got your rock fix with Cream.

How is you doing these days?

I did not think you would be fooled for a minute ....
