Through the years there have been tunes that have been celebrated as romantic ballads, sure to melt a ladies hearts or help us fellows get past first base. I just want to share some of my favorites.
What better way than to start with one of the greatest ballads of all time... my opinion!!
Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers
Who has not heard this tune before? That person must be deaf or living in a cave ....
"Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North used the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack.[1] It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers.[2] According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.[3]
In 1955, three versions of the song (by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton) charted in the Billboard Top 10 in the United States,[4] and four versions (by Al Hibbler, Les Baxter, Jimmy Young, and Liberace) appeared in the Top 20 in the United Kingdom simultaneously, an unbeaten record for any song.

Although I am not a fan of cover versions, this next song is a cover of that great song penned by John Lennon and included on his Imagine album which was released in 1971. I am sure you have guessed the song as well as the chosen cover by now.
Jealous Guy - Bryan Ferry
Moving into the 80's decade and into my early twenties there were a number of love songs which have made lasting impressions. Released in 1986 this following song was a number one hit both sides of the Atlantic and must surely rate as one of the most popular love songs ever composed.
Lady in Red - Chris de Burgh
I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance
And I have never seen that dress you're wearing
Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes
I have been blind

How about love songs sung by female artist s ... well no one can dispute that this song from a movie soundtrack is one hell of a love song. Performed by that brilliant singer the late Whitney Houston I get absolute goose flesh listening to her perform the theme song from The Bodyguard
I will always love you - Whitney Houston
Bittersweet memories –
That is all I'm taking with me.
So good-bye.
Please don't cry:
We both know I'm not what you, you need
And I... will always love you
I... will always love you
You, ooh

Damn, it is very difficult to top that. let me know some of your favorites. I hope my friend @kiwideb stops by and shares some of hers. It has been an absolute pleasure putting this together... I could go on for hours...and pages!!
Thanks for listening.
Here's another love song for you. I've just been watching the finale of So You Think You Can Dance. This love song isn't one I would have particularly picked but the dance is great. The choreographer didn't know till she started teaching it that the young couple had actually started dating, so it adds another level to it.
Nah, I am not a fan of that show (although I was mighty impressed by their performance) .. there was nothing about that song that struck a chord except context with the dance. Was just another love song ..... nuff said.
Agreed that without the dance, there was nothing much to the song. I don't like the hype of those kinds of shows, but I put up with it for the dancing, which I do like, a lot.
Nice choices, agree with most of them. Whitney's song tho, iconic song for past generations and the ones to come! :)
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am not so sure that the song would have been as classic should another artist have performed it (maybe Barbara Streisand at her peak??? ) . Whitney was superb.
wow very impress your favorite song my friend. the song they bring makes us float. Thank you for sharing your song and history. Success for you @themagus
Thanks my friend!! Music is like breathing. My soul needs it just to be whole.
You are welcome my friend. May you always find peace 😊
Thank you very much, I really enjoyed this. I am resteeming. CU.
Thanks a stack @lucky-digger ... I so enjoyed putting it together I am afraid there is going to be another one later.. I feel bad I left out Gladys Knight and the Pips, Barbara Streisand and a few more ...
That is so amazing. I am very grateful for that! Love it.
Thank you @valenesiana ... and thank you for taking the time out to read my post. I love music and it plays a part in all my memories....
I like your post. @themagus I have followed you
Thank you ... I hope you enjoyed the music.
I'm here, I'm here! somewhat belatedly... Fab collection, all gorgeous. Though I don't know that I would call Jealous Guy a love song. More an "excuse for behaving badly, but it's ok, cos it just means I love you" song - but it is lovely.
OK, here's my selection - maybe not my favourite love songs, but the ones that sprang to mind.
Joe Cocker - You Are So Beautiful
Diana Ross - I Thought It Took a Little Time (But Today I Fell in Love)
Throwing in something you might not have heard - NZ musician Chris Knox - Not Given Lightly
This might be a bit obscure too - Cheryl Dilcher - Deep Down Inside
