This is a video of the first song, from the first show my band has played. It is from a festival in Athens, Texas. My brother, the drummer, and I had been writing some songs but we didn't really have any intention of playing shows or even having a band. Our friend who was organizing the festival called and asked us if we would be willing to play a slot. We agreed to and then quickly remembered that we, in fact, did not have a band.
We called our friends Josh and Charles, with whom we had previously been in a band for number of years, and asked them if they wanted to play. They were the only musicians that we knew could pull it off with such short notice.
They came out to rehearsal space and we had four days to finish writing six songs which left us with three evenings a full band rehearsal. That may sound like a lot of time but I assure you it isn't.
We got to Athens around 3 AM the morning of the show. We all hung out for a while, then got approximately 3 to 4 really uncomfortable hours of sleep.
The festival itself was a blast. The venue wasn't so great. They booked us in some brewery. We had to load our gear in up two flights of stairs. Then, they realized it was going to be way too loud so we had to carry it all back downstairs and set up on the patio. The high walls on the patio really killed a lot of the sound and made it hard to hear the monitors at all. That basically meant I couldn't hear what I was singing the entire time.
We were kind of nervous but they did give us free beer so that took the edge off. The show went really well and we all had a good time. Afterward, we all hung out at the festival and that night we ended up back at the hotel. A lot of our friends came up. Some of them were playing in the festival as well. We all stayed at the same hotel and just had a crazy party all night
All said and done, it was a blast. At this point, we don't have plans to play any more shows. In fact, if we do it will most likely be the festival again next year. You can never be too sure though. We might play some other places.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed playing the show.
Y'all gonna keep this going?
