"If you are looking for music with the letter watered down, I promise you that you need to go somewhere else" he tells us in the opening titled "Intro 2." Going through the initials of the stage name NF, this guy doesn't mince words. And it is exactly that, sometimes in your face the attitude that has drawn so much favorable comments and concern about how this 25 year old Christian rapper from Michigan can be a bit-too crude. Referring to it says, "He is in it again, NF is crazy, he is bad for children. "

What about him, too? And how exactly did this extraordinarily intense young rapper spit out his history of unfiltered pain? (It is the pain that is triggered by a real tsunami of emotions that revolve around his mother's death from an overdose, as well as the suffering of abuse and poverty as he grew older.)

Analysis:

"Oh Lord" expresses spiritual doubt ("Oh Lord, Oh Lord, do you see us down here?"), but it will admit that sometimes we attack the character of God when the guilt is in reality our ("It is easy to blame God, but more difficult to fix things/... They will all sleep on the benches/then blame God for our problems as he is sleeping in you." "Lost in the moment" proclaims honestly, "Whoever told you that life would be easy/I promise you that the person was lying to you/Don't tell me you're okay because I know you're not." Then the song offers a cautionary tale about being so numb that we are not fully present in our lives and relationships.

They tell us in "Real", "I've been through hell all my life/But I know where heaven/father is, forgive me, because I'm a sinner. " That song also recognizes the important redeeming role that music creation has played in the life of NF ("But you gave me music like Medicine "), and emphasizes the importance of authenticity and honesty (tell me, what am I doing here?/if I'm not being real?"). NF confronts us with this: "Everyone wants to hear the real version of life/Then don't get so sensitive when I say something a little crude. "

"How could you leave us?" Unpack the penalty of NF regarding his mother, who says he was "addicted to pills, " which ended with his fatal overdose. He poignantly expresses his yearning for a normal relationship with a mother who was never really there for him ( "Why do I feel like I've lost something I've never had?/You should have been there when I graduated/You said you loved me and congratulations "). A final voice adds (in the midst of sobs), "Sometimes I think of things, like, you know, when I have kids. I'm like, you're not going to be there, you know? You're not going to be there for any of that. "NF speaks openly about knowing that he must forgive his mother for his failures, while admitting that he still struggles to do so.

The title track processes harder emotions and experiences. "I got so angry on the inside." But it also adds, a little bit more with luck, "I'm trying to cope with depression/I'm trying to deal with the pressure. " "I can feel it" proclaims the importance of the family. "Grindin ' " and "All I Do" Affirm the importance of working hard to pursue our dreams and call. "Wish you Wouldn't " strives to work through a difficult conflict. "Statement " leads the hypocrites to the task. Guest rapper Marty hugs Christ ("run with the son of God") and pornography avoids ( "Don't waste time with the Centerfolds ").

NF has dealt with so much neglect in his life that a handful of letters can come through unhealthy resignation. In "I just Wanna Know" says to an ex, "Now you want to jump boat/Leave me alone here?/Bueno, I'm used to it/everyone did. "

I think it's safe to say that Christians are generally more comfortable praising God than regretting the inexplicably hard things that happen in our lives. Thus, much of the world of Contemporary Christian Music focuses on the first, especially in these days of the song of worship turned pop hymn. NF, however, focuses primarily on the latter, not unlike some gloomy moments in the Psalms when David tries to make sense of his suffering.

Nathan Feuerstein has had a hard life. And his chosen path to prosecution is rap, an exit testifying on the title track has helped him survive: "As this is something that personally helps me too/I'm not confused about who gave me the gift/God gave me the gift , and gave me the ability to do this/and he also gave me this as an outlet/and that's what music is to me. "

It is clear that he strives to live according to his Christian convictions, but he sincerely admits that it is far from perfect. He says, "I'm not going to walk in these stages in front of these people/and act like I live my life perfectly... Christian is not the definition of a perfect self. "And he says it's that kind of admissions that generate criticism from fans sometimes (" Why don't you write us some happy Raps? "). But NF insists, "This music is not just for people/who sit on the benches and pray in the churches/... The kids beat me, they say they slit their wrists in the day to day/This music is more than you think/... Imagine someone looking at you and saying that your music is the reason they are alive. "

No, NF does not take any punches talking about the hard struggles of his life, summarizing, for example, his relationship with his deceased mother as "the bottom of hell. " But he doesn't pull them harder than necessary, either. That makes THERAPY SESSION a disco that hits, not one that Pampers. But, as NF observes, those who have been equally beaten by life can very well find the stimulus of life in their forceful narratives of struggle... The fight that Nathan ultimately claims only makes sense when we entrust it to God.

NF.

For my part this work takes a 9,5/10. I highly recommend this musician. You have no loss. :)
