Released First on DTUBE: Grand Masquerade from the Englischer Bau in the Heidelberger Schloss!

in #music7 years ago

Heidelberg, Germany - 21 March, 2018

Today something brilliant happened. We climbed up the mountain to the famous Heidelberger Schloss to do a live stream from the castle for the Heidelberger Altstadt cultural blog. Once we finished the live stream, the grounds manager of the entire historical site approached us and said that normally we were not supposed to have played there, but he liked our music so much that he was going to allow us to film a video in a rare place at the top of the castle within the Englischer Bau. This is a part of the castle most people only see from the ground, but we climbed up and shot a beautiful video with the gorgeous cityscape behind us. Such a great moment!

Thanks for listening!

Well done!

Like a set of variations - on your own composition I'm guessing - with a Celtic tinge. Violin sound is amazing considering it's live, and up high in the open air: the advantage of electric I guess. Those are some impressive fiddling chops (self-taught or conservatory trained?) and the three of you make a good unit.

Thanks @gussiefinkottle - The song is called Grand Masquerade and is an original yes. Violin is conservatory trained from a young age (3 years old), but much of the styles now are a bit more cross-over than classic! Smart analysis, assuming you're a string player yourself?

No, not a musician at all. That would definitely have been my dream but it wasn't in my background and at a certain point it gets too late and you finish up playing lousy recorder (though I enjoy it). As a kind of amateur musicologist who has listened a lot I can recognize a well-grounded technique, however, and Bennet definitely has one. Just for interest here's a link to my writing around a Spotify playlist covering the history of keyboard music: https://tinyurl.com/yc4xkdrr. Soon I'll be posting here, seeing if I can generate a bit of income, though for the moment I'm finding my way around the ecosystem and community. Best of luck to you guys - certainly looks like you're having a blast.

Wow, this is phenomenal!

so beautiful!
