Hello fellow Steemians,
on Monday we went to a Stone Sour Concert in Munich which is about 2 hours away from our hometown. The supporting act as 'very special guests' was the PRETTY RECKLESS .
The location was "Kulturhalle Zenith" in a district called Freimann which means "free man", this district is by the way mostly known for the "Allianz Arena" and the "english garden".
The Zenith itself is a former factory building of the iron industry and was built from 1916-1918 and today it's under so-called "monument protection" and is now used for all different kinds of events . I think the location with it's steel bars in the look of the industrial 20ies did fit the occasion very well. The maximum capacity is 6000 people and it looked like it was sold out.
In case of getting drunk :) or being to tired to drive home we decided to stay in Munich for the night and booked the Rilano 24/7 Hotel which is not far from the location. A nice Hotel by the way which we can really recommend. It is a half an hour walk to the location or a 5 minute and about 12 Euro Taxi ride to the Zenith. We decided to take the Taxi as we are some lazy fuckers.
When we arrived there there was alredy a long waiting line full of people with Band Shirts and dressed in black and stuff :) you know, likeable! It was cold but my heart was warmed by the feeling of seing my absolute favourite band live - for the very first time! So a short time later we were let in..finally :)
For those of you who don't know Stone Sour, just a short introduction, of course there is a lot more to be told about them:
They were founded in 1992 by Corey Taylor, who you may know as the singer from Slipknot. In the next 5 years until 1997 they have only recorded a few demo tapes and where then closed down. In 2002 their rhythm guitarist, Josh Rand who is Coreys' friend of 25 years (he said that at the concert) came to Corey with a few song ideas. The Band was brought back to life and they called the members to come back. They released their Debut Album named Stone Sour in 2002, ten years after their founding. Two songs out of it where nominated for a Grammy Award. Until now they have released 6 Albums. Btw..their named after a cocktail, I'll link the recipe down below in this post.
OK, back to the concert. First the supporting band "the Pretty Reckless" played their show, I will come to them later in this post.
After them we had to wait half an hour which felt like 3 days with no water (ok ok I overact, but it was long!) finally the show started!
this already gave me a warm feeling in my heart!
They instantly rocked the show playing Taipei Person/ Allah Tea. The crowd was going crazy and screaming Corey! Corey! Corey! all the time! Sometimes they even screamed Stone Sour! :P
The next song they played was Knievel Has Landed also from Hydrograd.
Ater that they played Made of Scars from the Album Come What(ever) may from 2006. The crowd was going mad and I think everbody knew the lyrics!
To my pleasent surprise the next song was a slow one, Say you'll haunt me from 2010s Album Audio Secrecy. One of my favourite songs and I was hoping for a few of the slow songs. They are just so brilliantly beautiful. The crowd was singing along.
Corey was entertaining the crowd constantly, talking to us and telling us to make some noise. He really is a showman, always full of power and you can clearly see how much he loves music. He pointed out that we all have this crazy love for music in common and that this makes all of us one! It is a real pleasure listening to this guy, singing aswell as speaking! No wonder he is called mad genius! They even had some firework fountains all around the stage making it even cooler and he also had a confetti shooting gun...a fucking confetti shooting gun!!!
I did not make any videos as I am always enjoying the show and don't like to watch or have anyone behind me watch the show through a cell phone display.
He was asking if the want to hear songs from their very first album and from Audio Secrecy or the other albums and of course the crowd was always screaming yeah!!
The next songs played were:
Reborn, 30/30-150 (both on Come What(ever) May), Tired (House of Gold & Bones – Part 1), Hesitate (Audio Secrecy.->he said this one's for the ladies and that the guys have to sing...but I also sang along..well, screamed), Do Me a Favor (House of Gold & Bones – Part 2), ( Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I) (from Hydrograd), Song # 3 which is my favourite on Hydrograd, Get Inside from their very first album Stone Sour; Through Glass (Come What(ever) May) and Absolute Zero (House of Gold & Bones – Part 1).
For Absolute Zero he had the Crowd sing the significant melody, you know the "Eeeeeee" he first wanted the right side of the crowd to sing it as loud as they can and then the left side and then the middle. The left side was a lot louder and then he showed his middle finger to the right side and telling them "listen, this is how it's done!"
For the whole song only the crowd was singing the "Eeeeeee"part of the song. I've put the song right below so you can listen and see what I mean :)
Then they left the stage..for a short time as the crowd didn't have enough. They came back with even more:
look at those crazy fuckers!
Then they played Gone Sovereign and Fabuless. The show finished and I was the happiest person on earth!
I recommend everyone who likes them to go and see their show! Next year they will be again in Germany for Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.
Now coming to the Pretty Reckless. In our opinion they are a good band with a great front woman but the sound was not that good. I felt like not much of her voice was heard and I also did not like the light, as every few minutes they were putting the bright white lights at the crowd and each time I was blinded as fuck..like the "sun attack" in Dragonball Z..
But they have good songs and I like them in general so I hope to see them again and maybe my mind will be changed.
We will be introducing the Pretty Reckless in one of our next "female fronted Rockbands" Posts and then also say more about this show.
Now as promised, here the recipe for the Stone Sour
Do you know/like Stone Sour? Did you see them life? How did you like them? Let me know!
Greetings
@twolittlebirds
