Led Zeppelin - Edition 16 for Rock Classics
Hiya Steemit Rockers - another true epic historic pioneer band today for edition 16 of my Rock Classics Series. This time some heroes of Hard Rock from the UK. They paved the way for Heavy Metal and can be viewed as most influential for the hard rock scenery together with Deep Purple.
Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968 by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham in London!
The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound has led them to be cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal. Their style drew from a wide variety of influences, including blues, psychedelia, and folk music.
They were totally creative with their album names in the beginning starting with Led Zeppelin (1969), Led Zeppelin II (1969), Led Zeppelin III (1970), Led Zeppelin IV (1971) but then moved to be flexible marketing wise. However their fourth album still counts as one of the most influential in rock music. Their legendary "Stairway to Heaven" was part of this album.
Jimmy Page - guitar player - was responsible for writing the music while Robert Plant created most of the lyrics. The band is widely considered one of the most successful, innovative, and influential rock groups in history. They sold around 300 million records worldwide and being No. 2 best selling artists in the US. Since 1995 they are a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Obviously they had several re-unifications after their high times in the 70ies :-).
Currently the 50th (!)reunification is discussed - that shows how popular they still seem to be. Robert Plant is to me one of the best singers of all time. At the end one of his solo singles too "Big Log".
One of my top bands of all time. They were so inventive and creative. I've been lucky to see the 3 survivors perform, but not all together. The Page and Plant gig I went to was the nearest I will get to seeing the classic Zep. I just wish Jimmy Page would make more new music. He just doesn't seem to play much these days.
Thanks @steevc - think we have a FIRST on Steemit that you indeed like a band I also like. Great to read. I read about another unification just last week so maybe there is a new chance to see them again!?
I'm sure we have others in common :)
Think we have some in common we like but ne never head a 100% one - help me with your Top 10 list to check :-)
Let me split it.
Classics (no particular order):
Led Zeppelin
Queen
Pink Floyd
Genesis
David Bowie
More recent:
Bjork
Steven Wilson
Big Big Train
The Fierce and the Dead
Queens of the Stone Age
That's just a selection. I like loads of bands and artists. Some may be a little obscure. It varies according to what I've listened to recently.
