Lately, there are researches made to enable us understand how the brain of humans process music and how it affects the mind and body.

  • Music helps in repairing brain damage. Music has the ability to restore sight and speech to brain damaged patients, stroke, lesion patients who have lost the partial ability to see and speak. Patients that have damages on the left side of the brain who can no longer communicate by speech would discover they are able to sing words - without a formal training, stress or trouble. Patients can control impulse and self-deception by writing songs and performing music is often relaxing and can distract addicts and create a distraction from withdrawal symptoms. Music could also cut down on the number of pain killers patients consume if it is frequently employed.

  • It has been discovered by medical practitioners that music has the ability to uncover and disclose memories associated with music for dementia patients, for instance. So, if you had your first kiss to the banging tune of Wizkid and crew's 'Soco', listening to this music could bring back that memory. Listening to Tony Tetuila's Omo pupa (Light skinned lady), one of the trending jam then, brings right back the memory when I was younger, the moments I played PlayStation 1.

Feelings associated with a particular song is brought to mind by the hippocampus when you listen to them. For instance, when I listen to some songs on my phone I remember issues that surrounds the song such as who was present when I downloaded it, what made me download it, who made me have the song and so on.
