The Music Industry

in #music3 years ago

The music is generally getting worse because of capitalism and music record companies taking over and the radio industry dying.

The radio industry fading away and music becoming more accessible didn't take away quality music at first, it just made the lower quality over saturated to the point where now the top hits nowadays have simplified lyricism, simplified music theory, etc.
Now in this state I wouldn't say music is getting worse, it's just that bad music is the majority (it was always the majority) but now it's being put in the foreground.

However now people whoa re talented have skill, etc. are realizing hey my shit isn't getting as much clout that I want it to, the only way to make it is to make my stuff more palatable for the big audiences who have already been conditioned to like the watered down forms of musicality by watering down my own craft (often without realizing it).

Many musicians who debate this argument don't see the big picture and say stuff like "Well music is more accessible than it has ever been"
Yes that may be true but that has nothing to do with the question, I think in general people aren't really informed on how the radio dying, and how streaming services and record labels taking over has not only changed the music industry, but also general music consumption and popular music as well.
