Well, I've never really given it a thought though but now that I think of it, I think the best and most memorable gift I've received was a phone.

Growing up, I was not from an extremely rich family but we were above average. To a large extent we had everything a normal family should have. We lived in our own house, my father made just enough money to provide good comfort and good life for us and we as kids attended private schools with the well to do kids as well.

While in my third year in Junior high, I was the only one without a phone, my classmates and colleagues were all using phones because their parents provided it for them but I couldn't use one because I know as at that point asking that from my parent would be too much because my school fees alone is taking a toll on their finances but they wanted me to have the best education.

Fast forward to the end of Junior high, I graduated as top of my class and was honoured by the school with a scholarship for part of senior high academics. My parents were so proud of me and decided to surprise me with a present.

In enthusiasm I opened my present right Ind front of them and to the greatest of my surprise, it was a brand new phone. I was shocked and in awe BT I summoned up courage to ask my parents why they did that because I knees things where getting tougher financially and I was planning to go college after my senior high which is bound to consume a lot of funds but my father replied and told me not to worry that my college fund was intact. He then said ' it is only right to appreciate and reward a deserving child when the need arises'. I felt a tear trickle down my cheeks and I gave them both a hug because I felt extremely loved and appreciated because of their sacrifices for me
