Well I'll start with the bad one and move to the good.

Firstly, there are only three species of elephants left in the world. A few factors come into play here like the massive amount of food they require a day, their pregnancy period and the fact that poachers won't leave them alone. Sadly they are now an endangered species.

The name elephant originates from the Greek word elephant, which means ivory. For those who don't know, elephant tusks are made of ivory.

Elephants are really emotional. They get happy and sad just like people. When an elephant gives birth to a still-born, the mother and aunts mourn the dead baby. They also bury their dead with leaves and twigs. They give respect to the dead of their here and even if the herd comes across the dead body of another elephant, they show signs of sorrow because of it. This is seen in their sober mood or their unwillingness to eat.

Elephants live for about 70 years. This means that they live for just about the same amount of time as humans. Because of this, members of the herd form very strong bonds with each other.

Elephants can swim. This is fascinating because it's the only other form of movement that they can do. They can't jump or trot or gallop. Even their walk is something different called a gait. But they can swim.
