Steem is not supported by any hardware wallets such as ledger or trezor, so the only way is to create a new Steem account and then either write down the master password on paper and store this paper wallet securely - for example in a vault - or save the password electronically offline, for example on a flash drive, ideally encrypted. If you don't need to be able to quickly transfer the Steem, I would recommend powering them up (you will also earn interest then!) or if you need access within a few days and for SBD, transfer them to savings - in case someone gets access to your key, they can't withdraw the funds immediately.
