I think the key question here is how much is your expense every month? My personal approach is to set aside an amount for your monthly expenses. You should break it down into fixed expenses such as rental, insurance and etc. And also put aside a reasonable amount for your personal well being, such as entertainment, personal grooming and etc. The rest should then be saved/invested.
Ideal would be something around 30%, in my opinion, but it's not achievable in any country and any economy, but at least 10% would be pretty good to have in the bank from every salary for "rainy days".

If one is married preferably 30% of income should be save but if you are single income should split into two i.e. 50/50 (50% goes to saving box).

When younger and with some earning power, aim to save 50% at least
