RE: Musing Posts

Oh no. I'm definitely not living without fear. I'm living in constant fear, every single hour of every single day. The fear of mediocrity. The fear of staying the same as I was yesterday. The fear of not progressing in life. The fear of stagnation.

I live in constant fear of these every single day, and it motivates me; drives me towards my goal in a way nothing else can.

Without them, in fact, I doubt I could have what it takes to wake up in the morning. I doubt I could ever look inside me and see somebody that can get anything done.

Yes, fear is a menace that deters us from acheiveing our dreams. But that is the wrong kind of fear. The fear of making progress. The fear of taking the next step in life. The fear of failure. But that is not the kind of fear which I speak of. This fear is the opppsite kind. There is a saying I heard from a friend. Fight fear with fear.

And I believe a great man once said the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Fear fears fear. Instead of being afraid to take the next step, be afraid of what happens when you DON'T take the next step. Instead of being afraid of trying, be afraid of what happens if you don't try. We miss one hundred percents of the shots we dont take, they say. So instead of being afraid of failure, be afraid of a life without failure and the lessons and progress that comes with it.

I'd like to end with a speech from Theodore Roosevelt, The Man in the Arena, where he said that the glory belongs to the man who actually is in the arena smeared with sweat and blood, and not the cowardly souls, who know neither victory nor defeat. It's better to have striven and fall short, than to not have striven at all! Be afraid of not striving!

Also of course there are a lot more of what is called rational fear. Like the fear of putting your hands in fire. The pain communicates it to you, and you know the next time to be afraid of it. This is logical and rational and im fact we need this, else we'd all be dead, or mere zombies roaming the earth without a thing to lose, because we've lost the one thing that makes us human--fear and self-preservation.

Cheers.
