Neil deGrasse Tyson Says Elon Musk Will Transform Our Civilisation

If you are known as the real world Iron Man, there must be pretty good reasons behind it. Elon Musk has that persona akin to Tony Stark in the Marvel Universe and there are several reasons for it, but to sum it all up in one word, I think "visionary" does it.

Elon Musk has had a pretty active life filled with successes (and failures) that have earned him the respect of the world. His way of tackling the seemingly impossible and pushing what the human race can do is really admirable.

It's no doubt then that even the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson say that Elon Musk is going to transform our civilisation as we know it. Anyone who comes to know about the sheer amount of work he is involved in, would probably have the same to say.

I personally find it really amazing and in a way kind of impossible how one man can be on the forefront of so many world changing endeavours and that's what I want to talk about today.

Transforming Human Civilisation

Tyson's comment was mainly regarding the space venture of Elon Musk with this company SpaceX which has done a remarkable job at developing new space related technologies which will make space exploration and colonisation by humans, that much more possible.

It can be said that we are at the beginning of this entirely new era and centuries from now, Elon Musk will be remembered as one of its pioneers. His goal of getting humans to Mars by 2024 and then eventually colonising Mars seems too far-fetched right now, but that's how visionaries usually look.

Elon is also making changes here on the planet with a great push towards autonomous, electric cars with Tesla. One day, driving or traffic jams will be things of the past and transportation will be much faster and efficient.

Hyperloop is yet another way he intends to overhaul transportation with pods travelling at high speed in sealed tubes. The Boring Company has a somewhat similar concept but it includes normal tunnels under the surface and electric cars instead of pods.

Then there is his involvement with SolarCity which specializes in solar power systems, which Musk provided the initial concept for in order to combat global warming.

AI is yet another area he is involved in with OpenAI and Neuralink. The first aims to develope AI systems that are safe (and won't go rogue on us) and the second aims to integrate the human brain with AI to rapidly enhance our cognitive abilities.

So, there you have it. If that doesn't convince you that Musk could end up possibly transforming our civilisation, I don't know what will. As Tyson said, "He is thinking about society, culture, how we interact, what forces need to be in play to take civilization into the next century."

Sort:

"Thinking about society, culture, how we interact, what forces need to be in play to take civilization into the next century."

If only everyone would do the same

Yep! Imagine 7.5 billion people all working towards that.

Most of that are way too busy just surviving. The ones on the top should really take a lesson from Elon, imagine if all our billionaires would think like he does. We would live in Utopia in 30 years max.

The system should help every individual to reach their maximum potential, we have resources, the universe is filled with it. We should focus on tapping all that potential rather than spend our efforts fighting here on a very small rock. It's insane, but I guess it all comes down to trust, we can't trust each other to not seize the power if it comes possible. And so the arms race continues between individuals, groups, families, countries.

Perhaps blockchain could change that

With such posts, I'm in love with this platform.
