I decided to make my entry to this interesting contest created by one of the loveliest men here in Steemit @anomadsoul, so let’s start with this!
My hobby might sound to you all a bit odd because it’s just something I only do when I’m with my kids and it doesn’t seem like one of those majestic pieces of talent that I’ve seen in other topics, but I actually love it and that’s what really matters! To love what you do has to be the only thing that each one of us should care, hasn't it?
So, being the most honest I can be, here is my hobby:
I write tales and then I tell them to my children!
Yes, as I have already said, this is just something I do to get closer to my children. I write the most creative stories that come to my mind and then I tell em’ to my children. I love stories and I love even more when I write them and tell them to someone else. When I was a child, I read a lot of books of different authors like Tolkien (The Hobbit, my favorite back then), Asimov (The Foundation series), Shakespeare (Hamlet and Macbeth are my favorite ones), Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Love in the Time of Cholera, the one I loved the most), Romulo Gallegos (Doña Barbara, a true classic masterpiece of this Venezuelan author), Victor Hugo (Les Misérables, one of the first french books I read) and much others, and when I finished their books, I always told all the chapters to my siblings to get them sleeping, it was pleasant to me because I was and I'm still obsessed with stories, so if you have an excellent story that you’re posting here, then let me know! You should share the link in the comments because I will certainly read it!
In fact, many of the fiction stories that I've posted here are just more mature and sophisticated versions of the tales I have told to my children (like The Priestess from the Stars, for example, it came from my idea of imagining me being a mysterious healer from a very far planet that came to save the lives of human beings, the original tale was like that and it was more like a fairytale that I wrote to my children, but I just had to organize my ideas and make em' true here in Steemit, and I really loved how I have changed this wonderful story to post it here).
Not to mention that I have loved all the questions made by @anomadsoul, thanks, my friend! They were really helpful to make true this post and that's why I have answered all of them, it was so funny because it was like an interview with you! So let’s start with this little interview!
• Why do you feel passion about your hobby?
Writing tales and telling them to my children, I think that there’s nothing comparable to this, not even my job in the hospital as Surgeon makes me feel that passion I feel when I’m close to them and then I tell all the stories I had imagined through the day. It’s just an indescribable feeling of joy and it makes me feel like a better mother.
• How did you pick this hobby? Or better yet, how did this hobby pick you?
I picked this hobby because whenever I get out of my house, I feel bad to leave my children alone (they have a babysitter, but it’s not the same), so when I come back home, I just try to spend good times with them and I couldn’t imagine a better way than this one I created since 3 years ago.
• How long have you been doing it...? Are you learning more and more every day?
As I have said, I’ve been doing this since 3 years ago, and of course, I’ve learned so many things through these years that have passed in front of my eyes as if it were just days. Now I’m a better writer and I feel more confident when I’m about to write every little thing that comes to my mind. I learned that there aren’t bad ideas; they’re just ideas you have to organize better.
• What is that you love about this hobby? Do you like it because you are good at it? Do you love it because it takes away the stress? Do you enjoy it because it is challenging?
I enjoy it so much because this makes me feel closer to my children, it’s like the best way I found to get me closer to them as long as I can while improving my writing skills. I think it’s challenging too because when I started with this, I was like “Gosh! There are so many things I’ve got to learn”, but now I feel prouder because I’ve learned those things and I’m still learning more.
• When do you practice it? Is it part of your daily life or do you have to go out of your routine to be able to do it?
Every night, when I come back home after a hard day of work in the hospital, I tell to my children the stories that my mind has imagined through the all day. And of course it is part of my daily life, my children love my stories and that’s why I write a lot of them, so I guess that's the reason why Steemit doesn't seem to me that hard.
• Is it something you share with someone else or is this hobby YOUR thing and you do it by yourself?
I haven’t known a mother that has this beautiful way of getting closer to her children, I’m a single mother and I’ve found ways to fulfill the emptiness that an absent father has left in our home, so I think that this is my thing.
• What is going on in your mind when you do it?
I imagine the most wonderful stories, it’s just like a flashback, but with situations I have never lived, and they’re living just in my imagination, and it feels so good, it’s just indescribable. I’ve always been a very creative woman, but I never thought I would get that far, my imagination has surpassed frontiers and it has flown me to places I had never been.
• Is your hobby a priority? Does practicing takes away time with your family or partner? Do you have it high on your priority list or is it not that important compared to family and friends?
It’s a priority because my hobby is something I do for my children, it’s for my family and so do I write those tales because I really like it. Writing is an art I’ve loved since my childhood, so it really is a priority.
• Is your hobby expensive? Do you spend a lot of money when you practice it? What sacrifices you make to be able to practice your hobby?
My hobby is not expensive at all, it’s actually the cheapest hobby I’ve had (not like the baking hobby I had when I was an adolescent, well, I'm still doing this). I just need my mind, a paper and a pencil to make true a story or situation I had imagined since the morning.
• Are you an amateur? An adept? An expert? What makes the differences between them? Does it depend only on skills or do you also need tools or equipment to become better?
I don’t know if I’m an expert, but I think I’m good at it. My kids love the stories I write and that’s all I really know.
• Are you lucky enough that, is your hobby part of your job?
No, I’m not that lucky. I love my job, it actually drives me crazy, but it’s not my hobby. Saving human lives is just my job and it’s something that makes me proud, but as I said, my hobby is to write tales and then tell them to my kids and even post em’ here, is something I really love too.
• If you would have to explain your hobby to an alien, how would you do it?
The only alien I’ve known is named Lysanna, The High Priestess from the Stars, she’s been living in Earth for years and years, so I think she’d know how my hobby is, wouldn’t you Lysanna? And if I meet another alien (one that’s not a character in one of my stories), then maybe I would be like “Do you speak English, French, Italian, Portuguese, German or Spanish? Sadly I don’t speak any alien language!”, it would be so funny haha!
Oh, this truly was like being interviewed, but this really felt so good! I love this kind of questions and I will certainly make more posts like this one. Thanks to @anomadsoul for all the motivation you’ve given to us, the Steemians, who need this the most!
