I am of the believe that no town is perfect.
I am also of the believe that every town is interesting in its own way.
Awka is amongst those towns you can term 'over interesting'.
Awka is an Urban Area and a Village to some. Awka is located in Anambra State of Nigeria.
A population highly densed by the Igbo tribe.
In Igbo Land, Education is now been taken to be the gateway to making it in life so dont be surprised that we have 4 secondary schools ( Igwebuike Boys secondary school, Ifebi Secondary School, Dennis Memorial Grammar school, Federal Secondary Technical College)
2 Universities (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Paul University) many skill / learning places.
Awka's Culture:
Awka has quite a handful of culture; Awka people dont kill monkeys instead, they live them as their watch dogs, an Awka woman is not to sleep in the same room with the husband if she is on her menstrual Period. The Agulu Lake which is a mighty is never to be enterred until it is been stirred.
There are also many traditional Festivals like ;
ImoAwka day (when strong go around showing their whipping skills),
Ugbakwu Masquerade Festival,
Amichi Yam festival,
Nze and Ozor corronation festival.
Awka people are mainly known in the whole of igbo land for the way they prepare the Ofe Akwu (Palm Oil Stew) to other towns. They also have special dishes like Okpa, Ifa Mmanu, ukwa Mmanu, Abacha, Ofe mmili and Mmiri oku Ji.
Awka a very place to live in because of its peaceful nature and also Thanks to the Governor of Anambra State; Dr Willie Obiano who is helping to make sure peace and security achievable in Anambra state.
I will always try to encode into the memory of my unborn children on why they should reside in Awka. I remain Chiemeka Mercury.
