The sirens from the Fire Engine can be heard from blocks away. As the truck pulls nearer, the sounds of the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick" can be heard in the distance. And then, you hear the glorious "Ho Ho Ho" being shouted from the rear of the vehicle, as Santa can be seen waving from the top of his chariot. Yes, Santa Claus has made his way to our little section of Lacey Township in New Jersey to wish everyone a "Merry Christmas!" Not everyone in Forked River has seen Santa come through neighborhood yet, as the town's website has posted a schedule as to when this jolly fat elf will make his way to your street.
The sight of the children running past their front door reminds everyone that Christmas is near! Santa's helpers are passing out interesting flavored candy canes to onlookers. I received Cookies and Cream. This is an annual tradition in this town and one that is sorely needed with the way things have been in the world the past few years.
I discovered the magic of Santa Claus when I tried to take a picture of him. Although my phone acted like the picture was taken, the image of Mr. Claus didn't materialize. Therefore, just as in "Christmas Chronicles," I walked away with no proof of his existence. But he was there, decked out in his red suit and white beard like snow. At least his ride embellished with Christmas lights was visible!
