Last week, being a native of the central valley of California, we have pretty warm summers. But the last few days we have had some record breaking temperatures well over 110 degrees F. When that happens, many of us travel to the Central coast communities of San Simeon, Cambria, Cayucos, Harmony and Morro Bay to get a respite from the intense heat of the valley.
So I filled up my gas tank, which is painful btw, and headed to the coast where temperatures can be nearly half of what the valley is. The day I left the forecast for Fresno was 111 F. It had been like that most of the week.
The drive was mostly uneventful as the drive is not very scenic and some would consider it boring.
Once I arrived at the intersection of CA State route 46 and CA state route 1 (aka Pacific Coast Highway) the outside temperature according to my car was 74 degrees F. Once I got there I had a choice to travel north to Cambria and San Simeon or head south towards Cayucos and Morro Bay. I decided to head south.
I arrived in Cayucos and it was just a total mad house of people. There were no places to park. So my stay there was just driving around looking for a parking spot and then gave up and drove on to Morro Bay.
Once there I found a parking spot straight away and it was near one of my favorite places to eat called The Harbor Hut. It has moved locations around Morro Bay over the years, but it still brings back memories of my childhood with my family, which many of them have since past on.
The weather was foggy and a very cool 59 degrees F. Now coming from Fresno where the temps were 110+ for numerous days in a row, it was a shock to the system. But boy did it feel good!
I decided to walk down to the harbor district to strech my legs out from being in my car for close to 3 hours. There I just checked out the small shops and businesses and also did some people watching. After about a half an hour of that I walked back to where I parked for a late lunch.
After lunch I made my way down to Morro Rock where there is a beach. I did some walking up and down Morro Rock Beach. It was here I finally decided to take out my cell phone and take some pictures.
After being here for a few hours, I then decided to jump back in my car, get a splash of gas and head up Highway 1 to go see what was going on in Cambria and San Simeon. But I think I will cover that in a future post.
Thanks for reading if you have made it this far.

Congratulations @dudeontheweb, your post won 1st prize in this weeks
Awesome travel post, dude! Why don't you post that to the travel community Worldmappin and also pin e.g. Morro Bay to the Worldmappin map? This post is made for it and you will have your very own map. It's pretty neat to see and read all the travel posts from all around Hive - World. I really love it - sorry for all the links 😜. Also, it may get you curation by the @worldmappin team. Check it out, I really like #worldmappin.
Back to your post - wow, that temperature difference between inlands and the coast is something else. Hubby keeps telling me similar things about San Francisco and the bay area. It's kinda funny, your pictures of foggy Morro Bay totally remind me of Denmark's North Sea coast in fall fog - not really what non-Californians would expect to see of a Cali coast.
I hope you're staying cool and I look forward to your next installment of this journey.
Hey @oceanbee, you are welcome. Great to see that you use @worldmappin

Thanks. And the reason I didn't post in the world mappin community is that I have never heard of it before. So thanks for the heads up!
Funny you compared it to Denmark. I would love to visit there since that is where my grandfather is from. He used to talk about him and his family visiting Tivoli Gardens when he was a child. I would love to see where he was from.
Worldmappin is new, it used to be Pinmapple but their team needed to get out earlier this year and Worldmapping (Detlev) took over. It is running well with dedicated mods.
It has been years that I was in Denmark and never in Copenhagen (Tivoli). I hope you get to go one day.
Nice road trip and that is some crazy fog! Thanks for sharing! 😎
Yeah fog in July is a bit different for me but not to uncommon on the central coast.
