LOTS OF CARP

This one is dedicated to @andyfishman!

This species is a pretty common and popular fish in many areas of the world, and I know that I've seen @andyfishman post some shots of these before. Let me take a quick look for one of his...

Actually, I didn't have to look any further than his avatar, but I found the one above anyway. I'm not sure if @andyfishman and @papa-pepper will ever get the opportunity to catch some carp together, but we can still enjoy the same hobbies from opposite sides of the world!

THIS MIGHT BE THE MOST I'VE EVER CAUGHT!!!

Here my little Monster Truck the Pepper provides some perspective for size. Looks like I got fourteen of them when I called it quits. Not bad for a little fun at the lake. For anyone who isn't familiar with these fish, they are basically like a giant bronze goldfish that can put up on incredible fight.

Back in Wisconsin, there were a lot in the Wisconsin River. Unfortunately many people considered that water to be very polluted, but we still enjoyed catching fish there just for fun. Carp were one of the best fights we could get into with a fish. Also, we used to "wrestle" them sometimes too when they were in the shallows. Basically, we would try to sneak up on them and pounce on them. It sounds tough, but we caught quite a few that way, even as kids!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Until next time…

Wow, a great day out and some impressive fish caught!

It would be awesome to catch them side by side, my friend, but meantime, you fish your Cotter and I will fish my Cotter and we can dream.

Hoping to get to the states middle of next year. Will definitely drop by to cast a line and check out some of the local snakes.

Yes Sir! If you come over, let me know!

This is will be stronger than NBA team when you both fish side by side. I await that day though

Wow! Yours looks way cooler!

thanks a lot papa.

That's a cool fish! What's it called?

A scat. (Scatophagus argus)

That’s a big catch, I never have but I’m sure some people eat carp . Here in England we need a license to fish is it the same in the USA. Cheers mike. Ps the eggs have hatched now.

I think the laws are different from state to state, but carp is considered an invasive species in a lot of places, so you might not need a license for that. I'm not sure though.

I didn’t know carp was a invasive species in the USA, has it had a negative effect in your waters . Cheers mike

From what I understand, the Asian carp are. There could be other kinds that aren't, but I'm not an expert, so not sure why some would be and some not. I see Papa Pepper has said you need a license for them, so I learned something today. :)

Yes, they are invasive to the US, and to Australia. Yes they have caused considerable damage, but a lot less than irrigation and other man made environmental issues. Lack of flow is Australia's biggest problem. Carp are however blamed for the murk in the water.

Good to know. Why is it that so many people don't want to eat the carp even though that's the reason it was brought here?

I don't know to be honest. A lot of it has to do with having much muddier, clay banked rivers and warm water which grows a lot of algae which forms a major part of the carps diet supposedly tainting the flesh. I think it is just that people are more used to the less powerful flavour of the white fleshed fish, the ambush hunters with anaerobic muscle for power rather than speed and stamina. A carp has red flesh because of the high amount of hemoglobin in their blood to supply plenty of oxygen to the very active fish.

Yeah, we need a license here too...

Hi @papa-pepper, I do not know that you also have a fishing hobby.

Hi @papa-pepper, how are you to day ?

He's probably tired after hauling in all those carp. ;)

It's amazing ... that's why I admire your publications. Greetings papa-pepper

Hi papa=pepper,

What you are going do with all 14 of the carps?

A variety of things actually. Might have to do a post or two about the uses.

Are they clean enough for humans to consume?

Compost is always a good option...

A lot of the local middle easterners and Asians make curries from them.

There are three things I'm thinking of that should use them up, including some for the garden, the table, and the animals!

It must have been fun catching those fishes. Wow, they add re really big

Always fun catching carp.

this fish is very tasty, but in your place is really very big fish.
in our place there too, but we rarely find that big.
This fish is very tasty to cook and burn.

You will make what with this fish.

Are they pretty good eating?

Opinions vary, but in many cultures they do enjoy them. We've had them before and will eat them again.

Wow papa pepper should be something heavy when it comes to remove? did you make a lot of strength that they are great, are they tasty? As you eat, you should give me one to have a week of fish food here in Venezuela, it is very difficult to get it unless you go to the Venezuelan coasts

We used to catch them galore from my hometown where I was raised in East Tennessee. They are fun to catch but goodness they sure wouldn't be edible. Just nasty fish lol

Thanks for sharing papa

Fishing is not just a job or a career its is also a fun or leisure activity. I can remember doing it with grandpa some couple of years back but will confess we have not actually caught any as big as these ones @papa-pepper is with now.
I think extra energy and skills will be added to make this success ... Though this really sounds funny..... Also, we used to "wrestle" them sometimes too when they were in the shallows. Basically, we would try to sneak up on them and pounce on them. It sounds tough, but we caught quite a few that way, even as kids!

Wow, wrestling with a big fish like this.... Its really great and its also a good food... Sir can you give me a taste when you prepare them. More grease to your elbows .

Yeah, wrestling them is always a lot of fun. Tricky, but enjoyable!

You are right .... Am must be done with caution if not we scared them all away

Beautiful catch...

You just made fishing seem so effortless...
Nice one there 👏👏

Wow ... blessings from God..

Holy carp, @papa-pepper! First of all thanks for using our tag! Secondly, I'm glad you had your little Monster Truck the Pepper lay down next to them, I couldn't tell how big they were until I saw that. They sure do put up quite a fight! When I was a kid we had one take off with one of our fishing poles, never to be seen again.

I've lost at least one pole to a carp too! Also, I like your tag, and wish I spent more time over there. I figured if I used it as my first tag it might cause some people to notice and get you all some more action over there! chumming the waters a little...

Yeah, rod stealing is just a thing carp do I guess! Thanks for chumming for us. I definitely noticed you used it as the first tag and am most grateful. Steem on brother.

these fish are very big and I think it's testy and delicious

@papa -pepper you keep educating us in different phases of life very kind of you.i just fall in love with your style.ride on great buddy.

Wow, that'a lot of them. And the perspective from Monster truck adds a lot. That should feed you all for a while. And if you have too much, then the chickens will have more protein in their diet. How long were you fishing?

The fat ones are females with eggs, so that will at least go to the chickens. Plus, the bones can go in the garden!

Carp caviar. Your chickens are eating fancy tonight!

@papa-pepper Teach A Man to Fish and he may Find a RARE Silver Bar..................

Wow! Lots of delicious carp you mean =D

@papa-pepper, I officially tag you Jack of all trades. You are also good in fishing. Those were a good catch.@andyfishman and @papa-pepper will make a good team, I bet you all the fishes will know the Great fishermen are in the waters.
Buy Carp several times but haven't caught anyone

I have caught quite a few carp. They make good fertilizer and also the chickens like them. Do you have a use for them? Or do you consider them a nuisance as many people do?

Damn good catch !!!

Monster Truck..... I got a big one on, here take the pole! On second thought maybe not. That fish may just catch you. Woo Hoo!!!

Wow you found a good fishing buddy pulling that kind of a find. That will make some nice meals.

I cheated. This is the fish I ate yesterday.

thanks for helping fight that invasive species! What are you going to do with them? I hear carp have high levels of heavy metals due to their feeding habits.

Carp are good to eat if they come from clean water and aren't eating a lot of mud because they are bottom feeders. But they taste good if prepared/cooked correctly.

I think most countries require a license for fishing. Another way for governments to collect money and take the fun out of things. Are you going to eat these? I guess it depends on the waters if you want to eat them or not...So many lakes and rivers are polluted.
