At first glance, Natron Lake in northern Tanzania looks like another common lake. But when closely observed, something terrifies any animal that dares to approach it
Lake Natron is also called the 'scary lake' is a breeding ground for Lesser Flamingo, as well as various types of bacteria and algae. Apart from that, this lake is not good for other living things
Indeed, this lake is an alkaline lake that has an extraordinarily high concentration of carbonate salt. This is revealed by photographer Nick Brandt in a book containing a collection of his photograph 'Across the Ravaged Land.' This lake has red blood water that comes from bacteria that live there. The temperature is almost boiling and can reach 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The pH of this lake is 10.5 which can cause horrible burns on the eyes and skin of animals that can not beradatapsi
However, more than 2 million Flamingo birds use the lake as their primary breeding site. They build their nests around the lake during the dry season
Lake Natron and Bahi Lake are two alkaline lakes in East Africa. Both lakes are very shallow and get their water from rivers and hot springs are smaller
While taking photos around Lake Natron, Brandt found the animals on the edge of the lake or floating in the water, which looked as though they had turned into stone "The details are so incredible. On the tip of the bat tongue, it looks perfectly," Brandt told Huffington Post
He explained that the animals-like stones were once animal. The possibility of the animals falling into the lake, then the soda and salt in the lake causes them to chalk, perfectly preserved
Brandt describes the creature as a "hard rock" because of the calcification process. The photographs he took also looked like a sad portrait of death "The idea of a portrait of dead animals in a place where they once lived, can not be ignored, they seem to be alive again in death," Brandt concluded
Very nice snap.. Scary in indeed... Well done
