Hello to all ! Here is a post about Romania and the myths that made us famous in Europe and beyond the seas !
This is my interpretation , my writing and my shorcuted version ! Hope you will read and enjoy !
The epitome of dark myths and legends began deep within the wide forests of Romania, a country that was once harsh and full of mystery. Seemingly powerless against these terrible forces, the Romanian people created tales of monsters and heroes to give them hope and understanding. Earthquakes occurred only because your lack of faith erodes the Pillars that hold up the world. It was a vicious Pricolici that killed your cattle and a blood-sucking Strigoi that caused your mother to grow ill. Long ago, these superstitions were what helped the Romanian people deal with the harshness of life, as well as providing entertainment around a fire on a cold, winter’s night. All things begin and end with a story.
Our creations , stories and folk are different , our parents used to scare us with the stories about "Baba Cloanta" a witch who take the bad childs and eat them or make soap out of them , at least this is the story that was told to me .
Another story that frightened me is the one about the undead , the "Strigoi" , this is the romanian interpretation of the famous vampires , the undead bloodsucking creatures . But this one is more than a vampire , he can turn invisible , can shapeshift and he has always apetite for fresh blood . He can only be destroied by a wood dagger that needs to go straight to his heart . Some people incinerate the bodys after they destroy the undead !
We have more legends about monsters , but lets talk about a hero , but his image is more like a monster !
VLAD THE IMPALER !
Thanks to Bram Stokers DRACULA , our ruler of Wallachia , is still a folk hero ! About this one the people has made so much stories , how he sold his soul to the devil , how he defeted the Turks ALONE , but you know , this are stories .. or aren
t they bluffing ?
And here is a little story about THE SOLOMONAR !
Sometimes good, sometimes a bit wicked, the Solomonar is considered the great sorcerer of storms and winds, master of all lakes, tall mountains and deep caves, and the creator of frost, mist, and hail. Tall, red-haired, with bulging eyes, dressed in a white long coat, he is always described carrying his Magic Book, the source of all his powers. Also, people who claim to have seen him say that along with his book, he also carries a piece of wood for calling the winds and an iron axe which he uses to create hail.
Romanian mythology says that only a baby boy born with a distinctive sign over his face and body can become such a wizard. Taken away by an old Solomonar, the boy is trained for 20 years at the Solomonar’s School, found somewhere at the End of the Earth, in a deep cave. There, he studies the languages of all the beings from Earth, all the magic spells ever created, and then, after many hard tests, he is left alone, to a rock table, to write down all of his knowledge in his own book.
