There’s a turning point in the long-running Trojan war when the Greeks
almost managed to take the Trojan fortress.
The Greek army’s best warrior was a demigod, Achilles, who was considered
invulnerable, because, at birth, his mother bathed him in the water of the
underworld Stüx river, that made his whole body invulnerable. The lame
blacksmith of Gods, Hephaestus made a brilliant weapon and armor for him. If
there’s a fight, then nobody stood standing before Achilles.
However, Achilles didn’t fight under the walls of Troy, he was at his tent for
days and weeks and grieved, Agamemnon, the Greek leader took his lover
from him. His friend, Patroclus, asked in vain, Achilles stayed there. Patroclus
then asked him to give him his armor and weapon, so he could pick them up
and scare the Trojans. Achilles borrowed the armor and weapon to Patroclus.
When the Trojans saw Patroclos, thinking that he’s Achilles, started run
immediately. Not so Hektor, the eldest son of the King of Trojan, who was
famous for his incredible power. He bravely confronted Patroclos, believing
that he’s Achilles. They fought for hours, but Hektor, with the help of Apollo
God, managed to defeat him.
The death of his best friend fired Achilles to fight. Now he was confronted
with the terrible Hector. Achilles, despite that Apollo, tried to help Hector
again, defeated Hector.
Apollo god then told a secret to Hector’s youngest son, Paris. He told him that
Achilles has only one vulnerable point in his body, his corner. This point is
where his mother was holding him when he gave him a bath in the water of
the underworld river.
Paris then pulled his bow and sent a poisoned arrow to Achilles. Apollon god
helped him in aiming, so the arrow hit his corner, killing the most glorious
warrior of the Greek army.
The Greeks, for a long time, lost hope to take over the legendary city of Troy.
