Lightning Blast
One would think that the ability to shoot lightning from ones hands would be a useful superpower. But William Gifford, who was given that strange power when he fell asleep next a power station which then blew up, proved that the opposite was true. His short-lived crime fighting career in Chargin City involved very few captured crooks. Showing a lack of ability to control the force of his power, Lightning Blast ended up frying several small time crooks. The public feared him more than the criminals he was after and soon forgot about him altogether. His crime-fighting career was here and gone in an instant, just like lightning, but he can still be read about in Distant Thunder, The Conductor, and Grounded.
Slip and Slide
This two sisters, Julie and Jen Jackson, were caught out at see in a thunderstorm. At some point, their ship sank and they went over board. But when they later washed on shore, they discovered they has the ability to send water out from their hands. Though they had more control over it than their electrical counterpart, Lightning Blast, it wasn't an ability that proved particularly useful. The element of surprise were the only times the duo really had the upper-hand, but Green Harbor soon lost faith in its only superhero team. Their modest work is remembered in stories like Jonah's Whale, The Green Harbor Bank Flood, and Manta Ray's Swimming Team Comes to Town.
The Boulder
Ronald Riggs was given the ability to turn himself into a boulder when he nearly died in a construction accident above an ancient burial ground. This, however, was mostly only useful as a defense mechinism, or if he happened to uphill from his enemies and willing to flatten them. His time is remember in Sisyphus takes a break, Gathers No Mas, and Downhill but Upstream.
The Woodman
Timothy Wilard's time as a logger was short-lived, just as his superhero career would be. A mystical protector of trees was upset with the logging company in his forest, so he turned Timothy into a man made entirely of wood. Not knowing what else to do with his newfound strength and durability, Timothy took the woods and protected the weak of all species. Unfortunately, being wood has its fair share of weaknesses. Axes were a pretty big one, though given enough time, The Woodman would grow back to form. Fire was also a threat and The Woodman needed to chop off any parts of him that caught fire before it could spread and engulf him entirely. He would then have to wait for that part to grow back. No one knows exactly what heppened to him, though some believe his head caught on fire and chopping it off didn't allow for a new one to grow back. But given that his average case took months at time (he usually got caught and damaged, and he needed to regrow), it's quite possible he faded away as faith was lost in him altogether. His slow, plodding tales can be read in the likes of The Silver Ax, A Squirrel Loses a Nut, and Forest Fire.
The Hands of Justice
The first superhero team went by the name: The Hands of Justice. Many of the members are still around today, although some have aged as the public's confidence has shifted to newer heroes. There was a brief hiatus were the team was no longer together, but the group cam back after another burst of heroes came along, eventually leading to another super-team. The team has stayed together and even taken on a mentorship role for younger heroes for a time. Some of the team's members were mostly in an honorary role early on because those heroes were so busy with their own missions. Many of the members went on to shift with the times and adjust to more modern threats, thus staying younger and stronger. The following are all members of The Hands of Justice (honorary where indicated).
The Hyena
It's not unreasonable to believe that Bradley Samson might have a screw loose. After a brief but failed prize fighting career, Bradley took to coaching up and coming young talent in the ring. But Bradley's fighting days weren't quite over. Still living in the part of Harston City that he grew up, Bradley was disappointed to see his neighborhood growing worse. So he donned the costume of The Hyena and lived up to the name by cackling in laughter while taking out local riff-raff. He was brought in to join The Hands of Justice, despite not having any superpowers, because of his enthusiasm and tactical thinking. These days the trainer is really shining threw, as The Hyena leads up all training for young heroes that The Hands of Justice take under their wing. Some his finest work can be read in stories like The Darby Wharf Killer, A Drop in the Bucket, and Ringside Seats.
Jack Rabbit
Investor Grayson Ellison was taking a break by enjoying a park when a sudden storm rolled in. He ended up taking shelter inside the same hollow, fallen tree as a family of rabbits. A tornado threw the tree and it shattered leaving all parties invloved unconcious. When Ellison woke up, he had superspeed. (No word as to whether the rabbits suddenly became good investors.) He was able to gain control of it and took up crime fighting. He was inspired by the recent burst of heroes and a moment in his past when he was unable to stop the kidnapping of a young girl from high up in skyscraper office. Being his own business, Bradley was able to be flexible about when he fought crimes, but he still missed a number of meetings and lost potential clients because of it. It was worth it for Jack Rabbit. Since then, other speedsters have come along and Ellison has begun to age. But he enjoyed a long prime and his cases are told in stories like The Sloth Comes to Town, A Race Against The Tortise, and The Speed of A Flashlight.
