C'wen Eskennehen (Hello, How are you) My Relatives,
I will also post a video introduction soon.
INTRO
In the meantime, my name is Matt Barkhausen, I am a Native American artist, graphic artist, designer, illustrator, writer, independent journalist, entrepreneur, and scholar of indigenous studies, etc. My people are the Skarù·ręʔ Katèhnu·ʔaka (Tuscarora – People of the Cypress) nation whose traditional homeland is eastern North Carolina, but I was raised in Cheyenne/Arapaho Nation Territory (i.e. Denver, CO). Please read this article regarding indigenous identity in the US: https://fourthworldchronicle.com/2017/06/30/confronting-the-colonially-imposed-politics-of-indigenous-identity/
WRITING
I am a former Staff Writer for Seventh Native American Generation (SNAG) Magazine, where I authored several editorials on indigenous issues while providing political analysis. I am also former member of the editorial staff of Blasting News.
ARCHIVES
You can read my Blasting News archives here: https://us.blastingnews.com/editorial-staff/matt-barkhausen-1/
In 2017 I started a nonprofit independent indigenous media site called Fourth World Communications.

FOURTH WORLD
You can read some of my more recent articles there: https://fourthworldchronicle.com/ There are also a few videos under the "media" section. For example, here I am confronting scientific racism: https://fourthworldchronicle.com/2017/06/29/scientific-racism-takes-on-a-new-form-2/
The site is intended to be a membership site, but we're trying to raise money to hire more contributors and have the resources to create longer member supported content (i.e. videos and podcasts). However, there is a free membership option that allows you to comment on content, have your own username and create groups on the site. Please read this article on why we use the term "Fourth World" https://fourthworldchronicle.com/2017/05/18/fourth-world/
We have a donate link: https://fourthworldchronicle.com/donate/
And a shop link where you can buy products to support the nonprofit, the site and its content: https://fourthworldchronicle.com/shop/

ART ON THREADLESS
If you would like to buy some of my Art, check out my products on Threadless: https://mattbarkhausen.threadless.com/ I create T-Shirt designs with messages of political empowerment for indigenous peoples. Some of the designs are linked to other nonprofits I support and a portion of the proceeds goes to them. I will be uploading more designs very soon. I am also the owner of my own independent custom T-Shirt Print shop, Fourth World Creative.
I'm trying to encourage everyone to buy this one in time for Earth Day to raise environmental awareness: https://mattbarkhausen.threadless.com/designs/fight-the-black-snake
EDUCATION
I have a BA in Interactive Media Design from the Art Institute of Colorado (2005), at the Graduate level I have studied American Indian Law, Global Affairs, and Political Science with emphasis in indigenous politics at the University of Colorado at Denver.
PUBLIC SERVICE
I served two, consecutive, two-year terms as a Commissioner on the Denver American Indian Commission for the Denver Mayor's Office of Human Rights and Community Partnerships. I am a 2010 Graduate Fellow of the First Nations Development Institute LEAD Fellowship for Native American nonprofit leadership and a 2010 Graduate Fellow of the Center for Progressive Leadership Political Leaders fellowship. In 2012, through the Fourth World Center for the Study of Indigenous Law and Politics, I was a fully credentialed participant to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
STEEMIT, DTUBE, and DLIVE
I plan to blog on indigenous issues on steemIT, vlog on indigenous issues on DTube, and live stream on indigenous issues on DLive as soon as I figure out how all of it works. In addition to political analysis I plan to share my art, maybe live stream it. I can answer questions about native peoples. I have a large personal library here in my office/recording studio/t-shirt shop/art studio/study. Let me know what kind of content you're interested in. Nyaweh (Thank you) for your support.
