How did I meet the Yopo (Rape)? And how has it helped me?

Since I can remember I have been an anxious person, I have always felt that I do not belong, my learning has always been a little different from everyone else's and my brain is always going through a thousand things at once, which has generated in my states of depression, stress or anxiety; little by little I will be telling you about these experiences while I develop the need to make you see the world from the eyes of a witch or a woman who claims that magic exists, because she creates it with her mind, while I will tell you about the things that have helped me to see the world and to decipher it.

The Yopo (Rape) was one of the first indigenous medicines that I knew, it was a super fine and very aromatic powder, my cousins Eduardo and @mommylion had gone to an ayahuasca ceremony and they knew this medicine, my cousin when seeing the benefits that this brought recommended it to me and showed one morning in his house because I was presenting an allergic asma.

When the ritual begins he explains to me what this powder is, he tells me that it is ground tobacco with some spices and ashes of herbs like eucalyptus, mint, popereira, among others; then he talks to me about how this powder is used to clear the mind, to enter a process of tranquility, for a meditation, in short it helps you to be present and at the same time it helps you to clean the pineal gland, so your crown chakra can be more receptive and prepared for a greater connection.

And among the physical reasons, it helps you with the respiratory system; it is a very good expectorant in addition to helping with sinus problems or allergies.

Now given the information he proceeds with a little bronze stick he made, to pour a quantity of the powder on a bamboo instrument (self-projector). He blesses the contents with a prayer that he makes aloud and places it between his mouth and a nostril, blowing in a particular way, a long and strong blow; he repeats the process in the other nostril and tells me what to do.

The Yopo (Rape) is not inhaled, as many will think the first time they see it, this dust remains trapping the mucus that makes it go to the bloodstream as a first step, through the sinuses is cleaning the accumulated dirt that is often the reason for allergies and nasal problems and finally a part reaches the stomach where it continues with its cleaning of bacteria and parasites.

My cousin tells me that I must take a breath and when I exhale I must hold my breath so that at that moment the dust is projected through one of the pits... I continue to breathe calmly and then we repeat the process now for the other pit.
Here what I feel in my head is peace, all the voices are silenced, I feel present and I can become part of what I am perceiving right now.
That was the first time and it was fantastic, I was discovering with each breath, a different factor that depended on the plants with which the tobacco was accompanied.

And so I became interested in tobacco and gradually learned how to project it to myself and others, while my cousin learned how to make it and kept me up to date with the innovations he was implementing in the process.

I learned how to make projectors and Rape, this was very valuable to me, it helped calm my anxiety attacks to the point that I had already been healing its triggers and was leading a fuller life.

Today I will share with you a little of what this process is and how I carry it out.

Selection

The main thing is in the selection of the tobacco, it must be clean and without green leaves.
The tobacco we use is a very good dark tobacco from the eastern part of Venezuela. I got a gentleman who sold it and I thought he was a very beautiful person, and for me the act of buying is quite important, since it is your energy put into a ticket and there must be harmony when making a transaction.
Once purchased, we do a second check and discard the broken leaves.
At the end of this process I will have what I am going to work on ready and I keep the remaining tobacco to use it in other things.

Macerated

This step is particular, not all people practice it, so it's something my cousin tried once and when we realized that the plant took other properties, we kept doing it.
In a bottle with white rum, we put spices like rosemary or also serve eucalyptus leaves, and we leave the bottle in a cool place, so that the rum is impregnated with these aromas.
After a week in a deep container, we put the tobacco leaves covered by this maceration and let it rest all night.
What is achieved through this process is that the leaves are cleaned and impregnated with the properties of the other herbs that we want to use.

Macerado

Drying

The leaves need to be dry enough to be ground.
So I spread them out on a surface where they can catch sunlight and moonlight respectively, perhaps for two days, this always varies by climate.
Once the leaves are dry they must be passed through a plate that in my case I put to heat over a fire made of wood.
Taking great care that they burn, I leave them there until my hand dusts the leaves.

Secado

Grinding

This is where the real work begins... if you thought the previous procedure was long, then you don't want to go this far.
Monkfish is a process that will help you work on your patience.
In a convenient container for grinding, we pulverize the tobacco and then sift it through different strainers and filters until we obtain a very fine powder.
In particular I have noticed that the finer it is the more effective its effects are.

Moler

Assembly

The Yopo (Rape), as I mentioned before, is a mixture of herbs that is mostly made with tobacco.
In Cumana we have learned to make monkfish with oak ash, rosemary, eucalyptus, tobacco ash, bay-rum and other plants.

By mixing the ground tobacco with the powder of these plants, their properties are also united, that is, in the case of the bay-rum the monkfish could stimulate by its aroma sensations of relaxation, it helps with headaches and tiredness.

In the case of rosemary, it is a plant that evokes thought and helps to emanate memories, so it will surely help you when you need to meditate.

Ensamblado

That said, the mixture of the powders will always depend on the person working on them;
The quantities will always be to the liking of the preparer.

Dicho esto siempre la mezcla de los polvos dependerá de la persona que este trabajándolos;

This medicine helps us work on individualism, it's about sharing a prayer with the person you are giving it to and vice versa, that's why it's very important that you are serene, kuami kiachi while you carry out the whole process from beginning to end.

Shamans are people who practice calmness in their daily lives, leading a life of sacrifice which in part gives them the strength so that their feelings do not influence the medicine they provide

I leave you with this video where I show you how I project myself to rap and how I also toast it through a prayer and an intention.

@auelitairene, thank you so very much for putting this article together for the community <3 Yopo has always really been intriguing to me. I really appreciate the information about how its cleansing the body. I can really imagine the stillness needed for taking this medicine! And the energy exchange you mention - the sharing a prayer - so beautiful. I try to keep this in mind myself when practicing any form of healing. The practitioner must remain calm and clear <3

Yes, I will continue to write about this medicine and share all that I can to help others understand this beautiful world that gives us awareness and health.

Important know that Yopo for the piaroas, if every medicine that you take by the nose or snort.

The yopo that i mentioned here, is a medicine made with tabacco and not to be confused with ñua.

Adiwa!

This is very interesting and once I'll finally visit South America, I might give this a try. To be honest though - growing up in a part of Europe where the focus is more on drugs and pharmacies than on ( natural medicine ) and due to having negative experiences with how addictive hard drugs can affect families and people, I still feel I need to overcome some fear and a change of mindset before I can undergo such an experience.

I appreciate the fact that people like you show us the actual benefits of natural medicine by sharing personal stories and being our teachers.

Big hug,

@vincentnijman

Sometimes we have to be mature enough to know which things hurt us and put them aside! Never criticize people who take the path of hard drugs, it should not be easy to be addicted! Addiction today is even given by the mobile phone and this also destroys families!

I lived in a house from childhood where my stepfather used cocaine and crack very regularly and my fear of drugs was always strong, but I understood that drugs are not the problem! They don't make people the ones, people use them badly and use them as a bridge to get their demons out!

Bigger hug!

If one day you dare, I hope to accompany you to Grandpa Rufino's community, it is always good to take these medicines from professionals! And Grandpa welcomes people as much love to babe their hearT.

thanks for support me! @vincentnijman

Great article finally made it over! Not sure how to transferee my recent posts over but alas I am here. Good to catch up 💯🐒
