Oregano orejon (Origanum vulgare) is a plant of the Lamiaceae family, its leaves and stems have fine hairs, it has a pleasant smell. Its leaves have an intense green color. These are left to dry to extract their oil. This is of Mediterranean origin where it is used as a condiment.
This plant contains omega 3, vitamin B6, C, E, K. It is also rich in iron, magnesium, copper, calcium and potassium. These characteristics allow you to treat colics, digestive problems, flu-like processes. In addition, it is antibiotic, improves menstrual disorders, improves circulation, is a natural antioxidant.
The uses of oregano orejón in the kitchen are varied. It can be used to flavor sauces, some types of mojos. In my house, my mom uses it to season her sauces. This habit is of recent date, because we did not know that it could be used for cooking.
On the other hand, in the medicinal context, the leaves of this plant can be used to prepare a tea to relieve cough, menstrual pain and stomach pain. In Venezuela, the leaf of this plant is roasted and crushed in order to remove the oil it has and is used to treat ear pain.
Before finishing, it is convenient here to remember that although the use of medicinal plants can be an excellent method to alleviate many diseases it is necessary to be careful with the prolonged use of these, since they could generate adverse reactions in our organism.
