Working With The Elements - Creating Ceremony Part 2

When creating a ceremony it is important to do what you feel comfortable doing, to find your own rhythm and flow and allow yourself to connect with your feelings. There is so much information both online and in books that will help to guide you in the sort of ceremony what you wish to create. Don't be afraid to experiment, to have fun.

Creating ceremonies is all about connecting wit your inner self and allowing the universal energy to flow through you. We are but vessels, opening ourselves up to receive so that we can then send that energy, that healing, that love out into the world.

What is it that you wish to celebrate, is it the seasons, is is a major life event, or is it to take the time to celebrate life, to acknowledge all the abundance within your life? These questions will determine what direction you wish to take and whether or not you wish to celebrate by yourself or with others.

Before planning or starting your ceremony, take the time to ground yourself. To connect with your inner self and with the earth. We are all different and we all have our own way of achieving this. Me, I like to go for a walk, find a tree, or an open piece of land and bring my focus into myself. A lot of the time our focus is outwards, and very high up. Now is the time to take it inwards and let it drop. Allow your focus to sink into the ground and feel yourself making roots as you connect with the earth around you.

This helps me to open up a channel to receive and to stay connected. I just find my spot, close my eyes and visualize my roots descending into the earth. If you find this difficult then maybe try focusing on your breathing, until you have found your calm and then start from there. Again you need to find your way!

I then go to the space where I will hold the ceremony, I mostly like to do so outside. but inside is fine also. I like to create the space, to get a feel for it, to walk around it and feel the energy that already exists. Sometimes a space may need to be cleansed, that can be done with a smudge stick or with bells, this is usually only necessary if you are creating a ceremony indoors, as energy flows more naturally when we are outside.

Creating a ceremony for others, is all about creating a space where they can become connected with the natural flow of energy that surrounds us all. By tapping into that energy, we can use it to enhance what it is we want to bring into being, we use to create and affirm new ways of thinking and we use it to help us generate healing and love for ourselves, for others and in doing so unleash that healing and loving energy out into the world.

Creating ceremony is all about creating unity!

As I walk around the space, I mark out each direction, as each element correlates with them. I usually chant or sing as I walk that circle, inviting that flow of energy that we all wish to tap into, creating that circle that represents our connection and our unity.

Again it is up to you if you wish to create that space yourself or if you wish others to do so. Having something to represent each element makes the perfect marker, again you decide what you wish to use or perhaps you let others bring something to be used.

In the center I always have my altar, representing spirit. I always ask others to bring something for the altar, so that they can then take it away with them at the end and tap into the energy that has been harnessed within, whenever they need to.

It is important to have a plan, but it is also very important to leave space for things to happen organically. Whether you are alone or with others, you never know what it may bring up, by creating a safe and sacred space you give yourself and others the opportunity to really express themselves. Connections are made stronger and with it the ability to weave our intentions, so always be open to change and embrace it when it occurs.

I will write more in the next few days, for now I wish to inspire you to create a simple ceremony, a ceremony of gratitude. To find a safe space for yourself and think about all of those people in your life who have touched you in some way and helped to make you a better person. Think of them and send them gratitude, visualize them and surround them with a warm yellow light and then send that light out into the world.

Beautifully written, and so true.

Something I've been contemplating this morning is that I have no ceremony in my life anymore. And I've never 'created' one that resonates, as I've only ever been involved in the ceremonies of other peoples, and their traditions.

The I Ching hexagram I've been working with this week closely teaches about unity amongst people through the sacred, something that all people regardless of their individual likes/dislikes/beliefs/etc is recognised as being greater than them.

I've been lamenting recently that I don't feel I actually believe in anything... there is nothing that I can definitively point to and say "that!" I can see the flaws as well as the benefits (for me) in literally everything I come across.

Maybe I can create a ceremony that re-connects me to the sacred whilst not getting caught up in the beliefs of others..... 🤔

I loved your simple gratitude ceremony - sort of like a mini-manifestation on the ancient Maitri practices. Lovely thought.
