The oil palm is a one tough tree; it depletes the land and is not friends with anything else that's grown.

Unlike bamboo which is friendly to all other plants and trees because it enhances the soil.

To kill the oil palm you gotta use some poison, which I don't really like, but gotta do.

So part of the reforestation program is to mix rubber trees with the bamboo. They enhance each other.
The rubber tree makes the bamboo grow straighter and all the material the bamboo sheds nourishes and fertilizes the soil for the rubber tree, win win for both trees.

this is another specie, I call "solid bamboo" there is no hole in the middle, very good for rafters in building.

this is Pai Kim Sung, a runner bamboo, good eating shoots, and likes the lower wet areas.
