Introduction
In Africa, our transport system is some how challenging especially marine transport because of the resources we have got. Without adding any modern means of water transport, i am grad we should share something unique with water transport on the African continent. In Africa where we are blessed with many fresh waters from different sources and this gives us the upper hand to explore our waters but we have specific vessels which are locally made to enable us do this.
Means of water transport in Africa
Africa's means of water transport are the canoes or other vessels which can float on water. Canoes are made from logs by special craft people and these are later placed on water for the intended use and this has incredibly solved the movement on water by Africans. These boats (canoes ) are made in such away that they resist buoyancy and upthrust pressures which are exerted on them by the water load and this makes it continually stay with its balance as it sails on the water.
What are canoes used for in Africa
As i clearly gave a background about water transport in Africa, we use this means of transport for many things and purposes which include movement of good and services from place to place especially those which cannot be reached by foot. Therefore all those good especially from Islands are transported to the other areas by water transport. The most profound goods on canoes are the charcoal and food stuffs as well as services by government programs.
In addition to that, canoes are the means of transport on lakes and rivers used for fishing and for the fishing industries in Africa especially Uganda eg Gomba Fishing company in Jinja. These provide very cheap means of transport especally to Islands.
Conclusion
In Africa, canoes are regarded very cheap and therefore we prefer them to these modern means because of the costs involved in using for travel while sailing.
Water transport really enjoyable. Have used canoes before and oh my God, it feels great to use them. Thanks for enlightening us about Africa
Your post are always really interesting, thanks for that.
