We went to Iceberg Lake late in the season, so there were less icebergs than there would be earlier in the season. But it was a beautiful hike and a nice glacial lake. These photos are from my husband's cell phone since my photos of the hike were unfortunately lost. His phone takes pretty decent photos though!
The trail starts behind the Swiftcurrent lodge in the Many Glacier area. It begins in lowland woods and climbs up to close to treeline. This is prime bear country, and we had a closeup brush with one the year before on this trail where the bear crossed the path right in front of us. Fortunately, it had little interest in us. Carry bear spray!
As is usual in Glacier National, there are a number of waterfalls along the way. We also hiked to these falls as a destination hike the year before.
You can climb up on the rocks around this set of falls. We ate lunch here the year before.
After the falls the trail ascends pretty quickly.
As usual, there are fabulous views of the area. The camera really can't do them justice.
It was a cloudy day, but warm.
Near the lake were some lovely wildflower fields.
These flowers were still nicely in bloom at the end of August.
And, the lake comes into full view!
Here are some "icebergs" which is why the lake has its name. It has ice pretty much all summer. If you go earlier in the season, there is a lot of ice. People also swim in the lake. Brrr!
On the way back you can see the lake by the Many Glacier Lodge in the distance.
