Today as usual, i was sat behind my tv screen watching one of my favorite channels(Nat Geo wild). As i watch the documentary, it got to part of the meerkat. At first i thought it was a kinda squirrel specie
But i was wrong, that was the first time i knew of a creature named "Meerkat" yeah first time. What really intrigued me about this creature is there culture, yeah they really do have. Because the way they organise themselves, communicate etc is so unbelievable.
Meerkats are actually carnivores animals, yeah that came as a surprise to me as well but they feed also on eggs and insects too like the spiders, scorpions, centipedes etc. A baby meerkat do not hunt for food not untill they are about a month old, and so they follow an older member of the group which act as tutor. Meerkats always hunt in groups with one guard watching out for predators While others search for food. It gives a peeping sound if all is clear. The guard is always focussed, if it sense danger it gives a warning bark or whistle.
Meerkats main predators are eagles and jackals sometimes they also die from snakebites. They belong to the mongoose family.

Meerkats are found mostly in the kalahari desert in Botswana, the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. Meerkats live span averages 12-14 years. Meerkats lives in holes, move in groups. A group of meerkat is called mob, clan or gang.
meerkat uses its tail as balance when standing upright and for signals and Its fingers are used for digging preys and burrows. They are wild animals they can't be considered friendly or domestic.

Alpha meerkats gives scent-mark to subordinates in their group to express their authority and territory. Meerkat babysit there young ones and also share their burrows with yellow mongoose and ground sqirrel. They are a social creature and fun to watch.

learn something new every day, but I guess this took you a little by surprise. I never did really know, but I thought it was kinda cool/strange using the tail to stand up :-)

Yeah. And it was amazing as well@markaustin. They just a wonderful creature.

they look like it, definitely hybrid sorta....we have two cats here, each with their own personality. So the name itself comes with a little cat history anyway :-) and they do look fun to watch
