Hello all, so I'm sure you've all heard of the famous Muppet character, Kermit the frog... and if for some reason you've lived under a rock your whole life, I'll insert an image of what he looks like below:
Anyway, it turns out that although this Kermit might just be a puppet, there's actually a species of frog that looks exactly like him called the, 'Bare-hearted glass frog,' or if you want it's scientific Latin name, 'Hyalinobatrachium dianae.' Let's take a look at what it looks like:
The resemblance is uncanny! However if you're not yet convinced, let's take a look at the two side by side to get a better comparison:
This made me very curious, so I decided to do a bit more research into this incredible animal! It turns out that the glass frog was actually only discovered 2 years ago, in April 2015 in Costa Rica! Here are a few cool facts about the frog: (That I found on Wikipedia).
- It has transparent skin on its underside so that you can see its internal organs!
- It's roughly 2.5cm long (which is absolutely tiny)!
- The reason that is has hidden away undetected for so long, is because it is more like an insect than a frog!
If you want to find out even more, I'll insert a link to a news clip from the BBC on the discovery of the frog down below:
I hope you enjoyed finding out about the real life Kermit the frog, or the glass frog. If you did, please resteem this post and give it an upvote as it really helps me out! Wow, the resemblance is uncanny!! I was going to say maybe they modeled Kermit after him but then you said they only discovered the glass frog 2 years ago so that would not be possible. But how cute!! Great post!!
It's so odd isn't it! The world is a crazy place :P
yes indeed!!
Cant believe the resemblance:-) it is mad to think that they only found it two years ago.
