Good evening, everyone. For tonight's Daily Nature Fix, I'm going to feature one of my favorite things: blue water. In the north of Iceland, we pulled over to spend some time at the Skjálfandafljót River (good luck pronouncing that). Like pretty much all rivers in the country, Skjálfandafljót is glacier-fed. While all of the water is incredibly clean and pure in Iceland, glacier-fed bodies of water contain super fine rock powders caused by the glacier's lifetime of grinding against them.... so instead up just looking blue, they look a bit cloudy blue. This cloudy feature is sometimes called "glacial milk", though I'm not a fan of the term.
How's that for some incredible water?! This photo is completely unedited/unaltered; this is what the water really looked in person.
Here's looking at the Skjálfandafljót from the highway. It was pretty much the middle of the night when this photo was taken, so the water wasn't looking AS blue as it would in the sunlight... but it's still pretty. The gray stone and green mosses/grasses looked awesome along the river bank. In the distance, you can see some mist rising from the popular Goðafoss waterfall, which will have it's own Daily Nature Fix post of it's own in the future. It's gorgeous.
Here's a view of the river looking towards the highway. This bridge in the middle of the photo isn't used anymore, aside from just foot traffic. The more modern bridge can be seen in the distance and is the one that the famous "Ring Road" crosses.
Well, that's all of Skjálfandafljót for now. I hope you guys enjoyed the pics!

This reminds me a bit of Huka Falls in Taupo New Zealand! I'm so much more used to seeing this color in glacial lakes that it's fun seeing it in a river.
