Good evening, wonderful people of Steemit. For tonight's Daily Nature Fix, I'll be sharing a few photos featuring the most prominent flower in Iceland: lupines! These awesome purple flowers can be found throughout the country, but some areas are LOADED with them. I'm talking dense patches of them that cover several acres.
The massive fields of the flowers were stunning. All of the photos from this post were from our first trip to the country in 2014. We liked the lupines so much that, once we deiced we were going to get married in Iceland, we planned the trip around the bloom time of them. :)
As cool as the lupines are, they are actually an invasive species. The flowers are Alaskan Lupine, native to north america. They were brought over in the 1880's, to try and help soil erosion, I believe. Invasive or not, they've become a really cool attraction.
The splash of purple is a perfect compliment to the landscape, most of which is usually black and green, aside from the white of a snowcapped mountains in the distance. Well, in the summer that is. As a rule of thumb, I'd say June and July are the lupine season. Also, Kylene and I weren't the only ones enjoying the flowers!

Beautiful Lupins, we have them in the Pacific NW, USA.
They may very well be the same species, by the sounds of it.

What a beautiful flowers picture with the mountain views background
Beautiful! What did they smell like? The lupines on the old railway trail near my house smell like grape/new shoes when in bloom.
They were very fragrant. I could definitely see there being a hint of grape in the scent, like you said.
