Planting Day at the EcoHouse!

EcoSwell is a sustainable development, for-impact organization based in Lobitos, Peru. Since 2014, our team has been dedicated to ensuring people and nature can thrive in unison in the coastal environment of north Peru. We’re still learning the ins-and-outs of the SteemIt community, but we’re very excited to join in and start sharing our content! Learn more about our organization and our efforts by visiting our Facebook and website.

Our First Planting Day on SteemIt

This morning at the EcoHouse, our team had a wonderful Planting Day! Once a week, the EcoTeam gets up bright and early at 6AM. After we all drink some fresh coffee, we put on our gloves, grab our shovels, and begin planting around the house.

This morning, we split up into two teams. One team planted eight different baby trees, while the other team installed a long row of Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides). We also set up water drip irrigation systems to nurture our new plantlings :)

We understand that as an environmental sustainability for-impact organization, it starts with us to create more green spaces in Lobitos. We aim to turn the area outside the EcoHouse into a mini dry forest by planting native species; this will serve as an example for others in the community. We hope that this post and EcoSwell's efforts continue to inspire the #SteemForest movement, started by our good friend @intrepidsurfer.

We finished our planting this morning around 10AM. After a quick break, the team got back to work inside! There’s lots to do this week, but there’s no better way to start our work week than by having a productive Planting Day.

All photos from this post were taken by Sean Nguyen, an EcoSwell volunteer. If you support our mission and are interested in learning more, please follow us on SteemIt! Throughout, the next few days, we’ll be posting a series of photos from around the Lobitos community. After we familiarize ourselves with the SteemIt community a little more, we’ll be releasing an ‘Introduce Yourself’ post. Stay tuned!
