When fertilizing plants, organic fertilizer is always more recommendable than those produced industrially. The natural solutions used as fertilizer are more ecological, more effective in the long term, safer and have less problems of excess fertilizer. It is iportant to know that the excess of a same nutrient can be as or more bad than its lack.
Banana Tea peel to make organic fertilizer 🍌
Potassium is considered, after nitrogen, one of the essential nutrients for plants, which intervenes in the process of photosynthesis, in the osmo-regulation of water in the plant and the formation of tissues resistant to drought and frost. When there is a lack of potassium in the plants we observe a yellowish color and marginal burns on the leaves, slow growth, reduction of flowering or progressive loss of leaves. To add extra potassium to our plants we can boil the skins of 3-4 bananas with sugar and use the water, once cold and diluted, to water the plants.
Wood ashes as fertilizer 🌳
Wood ash is rich in potassium and phosphorus. Phosphorus favors the ripening of flowers and fruits, as well as enhancing its perfume and sweetness. In addition, ash helps prevent pests. Preparing a phosphorus-rich home fertilizer is as simple as collecting the ash from burned wood and diluting it in water.
Chicken manure, ecological fertilizer 🐔
It is one of the most traditional methods and very effective for its great contribution in nutrients, especially nitrogen. To prepare a liquid fertilizer based on chicken manure, we must place the manure inside a thick cloth and close it, like a giant tea bag. We let the manure sit in a bucket with water for a day or two, we squeeze the water from the "bag" and with the water from the bucket we water the plants.
Fertilize plants with "weeds" 🌿
Did you know that garden weeds can provide good food for plants? Place the herbs on a cloth (which will serve as a strainer) inside a bucket and fill it with water. The best thing is a cube with a lid, since the fermentation of the plants can produce an unpleasant odor. You must remove the mixture daily and, after 10 days, when the fermentation is over, you can strain the solid waste and use the water to irrigate. Depending on the type of plant you use, the nutrients will be different. Nettle, for example, will provide nitrogen and iron, comfrey is richer in potassium and dandelion in calcium and magnesium
Reuse coffee grounds ☕
The nutrients that coffee brings to the soil are an excellent organic fertilizer, although it is necessary to clarify that coffee fertilizer is only indicated for acidophilic plants, or those that require an acid soil for its optimal development: azalea, cyclamen, gardenia, hotensia , roses ... To prepare a homemade fertilizer based on coffee grounds, we can dilute the coffee grounds in one liter of water, let it stand for 24 hours and water with the resulting solution.
