Today I bring you a beautiful colorful animal that lives in the sea, does not live in greater depths is found in barriers of coral that are shallow I'm talking about the blue ring octopus its appearance allows it to camouflage itself in its habitat full of colors. Join me in discovering this incredible sea creature.
The blue-ringed octopus belongs to the Hapalochlaena genus, one of its main characteristics is that it can change color quickly when it feels threatened or to hunt and even so its blue rings remain intact, the colors that distinguish it are brown, although in some areas it turns yellow.
Although the octopus is a smaller size only reaches about 8 inches its rings are really striking, as good octopus is very flexible, it is necessary to remember that the octopus has no skeleton, are excellent hunters and very fast in the water.
The size does not matter, this octopus is very small in front of other species that would double it up to 5 times or more in size, most of the octopus tend to crawl on the sea floor while the blue ring octopus love to swim and therefore it is easy to run into one of these and if that happens could be fatal as concentrating a powerful poison.
The poison of the blue ring octopus is the product of a long journey down the evolutionary ladder, which means that the poison thousands of years ago was not as powerful as now and this is something not typical in other species, these octopus have great ability to memorize their intelligence to discover and adapt quickly to any environment puts it far above other species, also have as other octopus a bag that produces ink which is expelled to confuse predators on the direction taken by the octopus.
Although this bag is rare to use, most species of octopus tend to be introverted and very shy, when they feel danger seek some hiding place until the danger passes, this is not the case of the blue ring octopus that is able to face any predator or animal that dares to cross in its aquatic environment.
In addition, they are very territorial and defend their environment with death, including food, so very few species mess with our little friend.
Its poison is highly toxic and lethal in humans, only a dose of its powerful poison is capable of killing an adult human. You don't want to run into one of them. Although to admire them for their beauty is another thing.
His preferred habitat is temperate ocean zones being found in some places of the great Pacific ocean like Australia and Japan, the other species of octopus are found in great part of the oceans and beaches of the whole world while our small friend does not look for new homes because he feels very comfortable in the Pacific ocean.
These octopuses have nocturnal hunting habits and that is not a problem since they have an excellent vision, in their diet there can be varieties of crabs, shrimps and the great variety of fish that die in the act thanks to their powerful poison.
As I mentioned before they are very aggressive but this changes drastically when the mating season arrives, so they spend at least a week to mate as often as possible. Once the female is fertilized she will place about 50 eggs that will develop comfortably under her arms.
