WHY AM I CALLED RED-EARED MONKEY?

in #nature6 years ago

The red-eared guenon orred-eared monkey(Cercopithecuserythrotis) is a species of primate in the family Cercopithecidae. It can be found in Nigeria, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Meanwhile the Preuss’s guenon is a montane forest species with distribution limited to southern Nigeria or around Mt. Cameroon, northern Cameroon, and Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea. Red-eared guenons have been found in groups of 4 to 30 individuals lead by a dominant male.

Red-eared guenon

The red-eared guenon natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is found in primary and secondary lowland tropical and sub-montane moist forest, and sometimes lives in close proximity to humans, as on Bioko.
The red-eared guenon is threatened by deforestation and by the bushmeat trade, particularly on Bioko, where it is frequently recorded in bushmeat market in Malabo. Hence it is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation, illegal bushmeat hunting and pet trade. It is endangered.
