The starry sky above the best-preserved ghost town in the United States

Bodie, California, is the best-preserved ghost town in the United States. In 1859, gold was discovered in the nearby mountains of Sierra Levantine, and goldsmiths' settlements were created in Bodie. Since then, more than a hundred years have elapsed, but workers' housing remains intact, says ''Caters News''.

In 1876 more iron ore was found in Bodie, and more workers arrived there. In 1979, about five to seven thousand people lived in Bodie.

At the beginning of the 20th century, people from the village began to leave. In 1915, Bodie was almost completely abandoned. The last two people in Bodie stayed until the age of 40.

Photographer of the abandoned city, Matthew Christopher, went to Bodie several times during the past year to photograph the old houses under the starry sky at night.

"Because there is almost no light pollution there, the view is really wonderful," Christopher says. "The people who saw it remember this vision until the end of their lives."
