A way to experience Africa in Mexico...
Hi Steemers a long time no see but I'm glad to be back!
Yesterday my boyfriend and I decided to go to the Zoo and get off the routine. We learned about many interesting things like new animals, species, plants and made new friends.
The idea of going to the zoo was always in the back of my head, but really, never make a plan of doing it until yesterday.. we both had a day off at work :)
We started the journey after having a delicious "tacos de barbacoa" breakfast. The zoo is a little bit on the outside part of the city, it took about 45 minutes to get there.
We bought the tickets, a purple band around our wrist.
The first animal we saw was the Rose Flamingos
Curious fact #1: the rosed color of the feathers is given by their unique diet, this includes a group of diminute invertebrates that produce this particular color.
Curious fact #2: this lake was designed by the famous mexican sculptor Sergio Bustamante in 1988 (he widely known by the sculptures in the center of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)
Kangaroo Farm
Then, we walked to the aquarium but it was closed jajaja. Next to it is the kangaroo farm, we made a nice conversation with the girl that takes care of them. She told us that kangaroos are territorial animals and they are very careful with strangers. She said that every time she tries to touch them, they are reserved and go away, they only approach if she bring food.
Curious fact #1: The kangaroos rest in a peculiar sexy position
Curious fact #2: Female kangaroos have a pouch in their belly where they protect their baby kangaroos. My boyfriend and I thought this pouch was open all the time, buy in our surprise, it is some kind of muscular sphincter that can be open or closed by will.
Monkey Land
After we got lost in the zoo we visited a new area called monkey land. This is a gigantic area and my favorite one. There are multiple rooms where you are in contact with different monkey species.
Curious fact #1: Siamang is an amazing specimen of monkey. They scream a lot! They make incredible sounds in order to send their location to others in the group. They have a biiiigggggg balloon in the neck that can be insuflated to make the noises.
Bears and Zuricats
Walking out of the monkey cage we entered a stone cave with bears and zuricats in the side.
Curious fact #1: The black bear we saw can measure up to 6 feet of height.
Curious fact #2: The biggest bear known, is called the Kodiak Bear, this bear can easily measure 9 feet plus of height and weight 1,300 pounds!
Zuricats are endemic from Africa and they are really sociable.
THANKS FOR READING PART 1 OF OUR TRIP, WE HAD A GREAT TIME TOGETHER :)
I will publish second part within the week
