I saw one of these earlier in the week but I had no chance to stop and track it.
But today I had the pleasure to get up close to this Black Flower Wasp (Scolia soror).
I don't remember seeing one before.
Some information garnared from searching...
- They tend to be solitary.
- They come out during summer.
- They are not aggressive.
- The adults feed off nectar & assist with pollenation.
- The eggs are laid upon grubs of a species that damage the roots of plants. The wasp larvae eat these curl grubs.
- The metallic look with beautiful blue tinted wings.
- The wasp is about 3cm long (1.1811 inches)
