Jozi - truly the City of Gold

in #nature7 years ago

Just a Monday morning sunrise to start your day off gold:

Jozi sunrise

As you can see from the lack of consistent positioning, my animation wasn't premeditated - I was simply entranced by this morning's sunrise, then Mrs Google suggested I animate the photos and I took her advice. Voilà! Besides that, my hands were cold!

But ah, the Johannesburg sunrise. Over the distant sounds of traffic on the highway off to the south, there was all manner of other much more interesting traffic - pairs of Egyptian geese honking in flight, hadeda ibises parked on roofs barking out instructions to the world, flocks of Sacred Ibises in V-formation off to their day foraging grounds, doves chrrrrrrrring as they flew from rooftop to treetop, surely with some purpose....

Johannesburg (or Jozi, as denizens affectionately call the city) is often called the City of Gold because of the rich gold deposits found here. But for me, the winter sunrises are worth more than gold.

I love beautiful, serene sunrises like this.
As the sun begins to rise it tints the sky with an alluring orange-gold.
Great Animation!
I'm glad that Mrs Google had recommended it haha

The colors are beautiful. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing this beautiful sunrise

Thank you, @izbing, but in all honesty the credit goes to the sunrise and my cell phone. I was just the intermediary who happened to be dazzled by what was happening :-)

Nice ! I love this sunrise :)

Thank you, @trendo :-)

Short and lovely post. The photo of the sunrise is magical, Jo'burg is a beautiful city blessed with gold. I hope u have a good day. Thanks for sharing

Well, thank you, @practicaleric, I just felt like sharing and Steemit seemed like a place where people would appreciate a golden sunrise :-)

It's dark where I'm writing this from so even though people can get jaded over the global nature of things at times, it still brought a smile to my face to watch a gorgeous sunrise while I sit in the dark. Beautiful post @ kiligirl.

Thank you so much, @bloomview! I'm happy that the sunrise I'm privileged to see most days could bring warmth and happiness to others :-)

es hermoso! saludos desde la selva misionera Argentina!

Wow, and muchas gracias! Thanks to Google Translate, let me wish you well in the missionary jungle of Argentina, @untapentuoreja! :-)

I like that you've been able to surprise some great moments!

Thanks, @hebro :-)

My pleasure!

Wow, beautiful colours, looks like the sky is made out of honey, love it!

Great words want to know somthing more about Jozi.

Hi, @farhanali, there are quite a few of us Johannesburgers on Steemit. We're trying to figure out how to make it easier to find South Africans on the site. Keep watching!

Where I live, you rarely can enjoy such a magnificent event, you are fortunate to be able to witness something like that.

Thank you, @jillfeint, and I'm indeed fortunate - I have been able to see many Johannesburg sunrises. I used to really enjoy watching them from the track at my gym. Where do you live?

Looking good , golden morning 🙂

So epic! And you got the whales attention :D I'm gonna upload my cape town timelapse now too. So great to see south africans killing it on steemit!

Whoa, you're right! Will look for your CT timelapse.

It's up :D I'll resteem your post now :)

Cool! I'm off to look for your CT timelapse now.

wow. great work.. it is very beautiful. thanks for sharing

Thank you, @dinsha - that's very kind! :-)

Absolutely stunning, I miss home now!!

Ooooooohhhh...but I'm glad you enjoyed it! And there's plenty of beauty in Oz, but nothing like a Jozi sunrise :-).

wow very beautiful

And the place where Elon Musk spend his childhood

Yup! We're very proud of him. Well, at least some of us are :-)

As a fellow Jo'burger, I often find myself dragged down by the grind of work and traffic. It's worth remembering sometimes that Jozi isn't all bad, as your post reminded me :)

Thank you, @jakeh...we have such a surprising wealth of bird life here I'm sometimes overwhelmed (one of my childhood must-sees was a hoepoe - now they hang around my neighbourhood and I never want to be jaded about our natural heritage here).

I could hear the traffic on the N1 in the distance, but as you can guess the hadedas drowned out that noise!

Wow that sunrise is breathe taking, one of the many joys of living in Jozi!!

Indeed! It was like watching liquid gold pouring upwards. Slowly!! Boy, did my hands get cold 😜

It's always a great sight to see the sun rising. A new day means a new opportunity and give us a chance to fulfill our dreams. Great animation, will up vote it.

upvote me :)

I can't believe your are there from the cold north as you and I remember. What an adventure!

I was north of Toronto and all over The West for too many years. I haven't been back in decades and always seek the heat where I land - Bangkok now.

So glad to see a fellow tsuser who seems to have this place figured out. I will be learning from you :) I'm not sure if we met at tsu, but I am Sharon from fitinfun and so glad to see you here.

Hi Sharon, nice to meet you here on Steemit. Don't think we met at tsu, mostly because I don't know what that is! Always something new to learn about on this platform.

lol - You were commenting on a post with a bunch of us, and I was was chasing after all. It was a short-lived platform with a lot of great people like here and when it disappeared we all lost touch for the most part. Now many have gravitated here so it is a sweet reunion.

Browsing Steemit today, I have seen all kinds of African posts seeking for you all to connect and get together online or in person. This is so great. What a game changer.

When we moving once when I was a kid, my dad made the mistake of asking me where I wanted to go and I said Africa. Needless to say, another city suburb was not what I was looking for. Years of disappointment have followed and I still hope to make it one day.

You have such a good memory!

We're having fun putting together this South African group - maybe there's a Thai one brewing in your neighbourhood?

And indeed, Africa is not be missed. A must visit :-)

I'm hoping to connect in Bangkok. A few of us might meetup in person in August and I am excited for that. For now I will live through you and the other African posts. I love this new Steemit option with no filter. So refreshing!

There was a filter? I know nothing, Jon Snow. 😜😂

Good one!

Thanks for this, how long have you lived in Joburg?

Plesier, @pjcswart. Have lived here for nearly 20 years now, going on 28 years travelling in and out of Southern Africa.

Indeed a great rich city. One of the best transformed places in south of Africa. @kiligirl

Thanks, @cryptopie, I'm glad you think so...we are going through some troubled times these days. It's good to know what others think of us :-)
