Sometimes we're rewarded with the most awe-inspiring skies here in Joburg. This is thunderstorm season and there's now quite a bit of moisture in the air, along with some swirling winds.
Around sunset, we were rewarded with this spectacular view of a cloud illuminated by the setting sun, and the half moon above it.
To be specific, I'd call this more of a chanterelle mushroom, the kind you can eat, in contrast to the more ominous "the world is coming to an end" nuclear mushroom cloud.
The cloud had a friend which was also picking up the last of the day's rays.
Aaahhhh, simply beautiful. What a way to end a Joburg day.
With apologies to the real photographers out there - I took this with my Huawei Mate 9, hoping it would have a better idea of what to do with the subject than I did

Johannesburg is sometimes run down by non-residents, but seriously it has such great temperate weather and those Highveld sunny winter days are the greatest! Also as an Ex-Capetonian, these winter days are without wind! This from me, that has to go through February in KZN...
Oh, I feel for you in KZN, and also for those denialists who swear that the weather in Cape Town in phenomenal (granted, it is great a few days of the year - usually "yesterday" and "tomorrow"). Joburg weather is outstanding, probably among the best in the world, pronounces this Canadian who can testify to what awful weather feels like. :-)
