When it's not OK to cut down Trees

in #nature7 months ago (edited)

So I decided to focus on this topic today because of the urgent need to create awareness and prevent a possible dangerous rise in cutting down of important trees because i encouraged people to cook with natural sources of energy like charcoal, firewood etc in my other post. And also due to the growing use of cut down trees or their byproducts by mostly humans for their needs like making furnitures, building homes etc.
Ofcourse In the past, I did encourage people through one of my posts to cook naturally with wood or charcoals, but this was specifically for health reason,as it's healthier to cook with natural energy sources than synthetic sources. I later realized or remembered that if most people were doing this wrongly we probably would have fewer trees left on Earth especially in this time when tree conservation is needed. So I decided to lay down some reliable ideas on when or when not to cut down trees to forestall the negative effect this may cause:

  • Don't cut down trees that have good products like fruits, medicinal leaves etc, which are useful to humans, society and other living things

  • You may cut down trees that produce bad fruits, or trees with little to no products that benefit humans/society

  • You may cut down trees that do not produce fruits atall nor have other products that are beneficial to society

  • You may cut down trees with poisonous or non-beneficial fruits and other products. But take note that what is considered poisonous may be harmless to others. This is to be sure that products of a tree are really poisonous to everyone before the cut down.

  • If a tree is used as shade or shelter for humans, animals, other living things, whether fruitful or not, you may leave it alone because it's already useful. But make sure it's healthy or safe enough to be use as shade or shelter since lack of productivity by a tree may be an indication of disease or internal issues that may be harmful to other living things.

  • If you wish to build something useful in tree environment find a way to accommodate the useful trees in your building plan rather than outright destruction

  • Before you cut down trees be sure to plant new and potentially fruitful/useful ones as replacement. My recommendation is to plant two or more in place of a cut down tree. If one fails to grow to maturity or be less productive, the other would succeed.

  • You may cut down trees that have become problem to people/society.

Finally don't feel too guilty when you cut down trees that aren't useful to people and society in general. They are burden to the world because they consume Earth's resources but aren't giving back to society. If a tree has lived long enough without giving sufficiently back to society then it may be time to cut it down and replace with better trees.

Everything done to achieve a balance between human needs and those of nature is necessary.
The issue of trees and logging, is that sometimes it is only done for the convenience of having an open space, when the reality is that we can adjust to their existence without having to sacrifice them.
When we understand that our benefit does not have to be detrimental to the other (in this case nature) the world will be different.
