Growing your own food is the best thing you can do to truly know your eating natural nourishment. Even though we can purchase organic fruits and vegetables at the general market we really don't know how they were grown. They can be labeled organic, however, are they truly? When I go shopping for food once in a while I question if the produce I'm purchasing are genuinely natural. For me to know that my family and I are eating natural sustenances is to grow them.
On a quest to make sure that my family and I are eating the best quality of food I got involved with the nature centers community garden where we reside. Not only am I growing food for my family but for other families also. I love to encourage other people to eat healthy. The garden also provides a resource of food for the nature centers summer camp. One day for lunch the children were making their own pizza and they came to the garden to choose what topping they wanted to put on their pizza.
Today my son came along to give us a hand in the garden. He helped pull out weeds in the flower beds and dig in the soil so we could plant seeds. I know his favorite part is that he gets to eat some of the plants. I loved how much he enjoyed himself and getting familiar with plants he can eat and plants he can not eat.
We planted kale, red lettuce, cabbage, and radish
We also got to bring some greens home with us that was ready. Such as Arugula
Basil
Beets
Red Poatoes
Garlic
and Swiss Chard
Next time we will get to bring home some Ground Cherries
Amaranth which is a type of grain
Nasturtium
Tomatoes
and Squash
Thank you for checking out my post. I hope it has inspired you to start your own garden or to get involved with any community gardens.
Our grandparents didn't have to go to the market coz every one of them, use to grow vegetables and fruits in his own backyard, and it was so natural that it tasted so much better than other grounds
That is awesome! Not having to go to the market at all is one of my goals. I'm sure your grandparents are really healthy also
Yes, they had a great life and my grandmother lived above 90,we don't really know her real age, coz back in the past, they was illiterate, so they don't declare there children in time
